The Islanders have won two of their first three games, so they can afford to wait for Palmieri to find his game, but that patience won't last long. Last season, Palmieri also got off to a slow start and ended up with only 15 goals and 33 points. He started the season on what is arguably the top line for the team with Brock Nelson, but if his offensive game doesn't pick up, he could quickly find himself on the third line. Palmieri will next get a chance to light the lamp Thursday versus the Devils.

The Islanders will need much more production out of this line if they want to return to the playoffs this season.

These are not the numbers that the Islanders were hoping for when they signed Palmieri to a four-year, $20 million contract before the season. It also has to concern the Islanders that Palmieri has now only scored 25 goals in his last 120 NHL games. The Isles will hope that this is just a blip on the radar, but Palmieri may be ticketed for a third-line role once again next season with the Isles.

Palmieri notched a power-play assist, three shots on goal and three hits in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs.

This was Palmieri's second assist in as many games, as well as his first power-play point since March 26. The 31-year-old winger is up to 31 points, 137 shots on net, 73 hits, 51 PIM and a plus-4 rating in 62 contests. With his offense back to an acceptable level after a slow start to the campaign, Palmieri should finish the year in a middle-six role.

Palmieri logged an assist, three shots on goal and two hits in Friday's 3-0 win over the Canadiens.

Palmieri helped out on Brock Nelson's empty-netter late in the third period. The assist snapped a three-game point drought for Palmieri, who has been much more consistent on offense in the second half of the campaign. The veteran winger is up to 30 points, 134 shots on net, 70 hits, 51 PIM and a plus-4 rating in 61 outings.

Palmieri has 13 goals, 14 assists, and a rating of plus-3 in 56 games for the Islanders this season.

Those numbers are far from great but compared to how Palmieri started the season; it's a 180 degree turn around. Palmieri took quite a while to find his stride in his first full season with the Islanders but does have six goals and four assists in his last 14 contests. Palmieri also has a plus-9 rating in his previous 12 games. One strange stat for Palmieri this season is he leads the Islanders with having three goals called back via instant replay this year. Palmieri will look to continue his improved play when the Islanders take on the Hurricanes on Friday.
