MacDermid has played in three consecutive games for just the second time all year. The 31-year-old is still averaging just 4:18 of ice time over 12 appearances, but by earning a point, he's doing better on offense than he did with the Devils in 2024-25. He's added just two shots on net, 11 hits, five blocked shots and 18 PIM.

MacDermid was a healthy scratch Thursday versus the Ducks and has suited up just eight times in 20 games to begin the season.

MacDermid's role is to be an enforcer, but with toughness throughout the lineup, the Senators don't need him to dress every game. He's at 16 PIM, eight hits, four blocked shots, two shots on net and a minus-3 rating through his eight appearances. MacDermid is averaging just 4:25 of ice time, so even when he plays, he's unlikely to put up offense.

MacDermid was traded to the Senators from the Devils on Friday in exchange for Zack MacEwen.

MacDermid made 23 regular-season appearances for the Devils last year, and he was held without a point while racking up 40 hits, 23 PIM and eight blocked shots. He'll likely have a chance to carve out a part-time role with his new team during the 2025-26 campaign.

MacDermid has played in just two of the Devils' last 22 games after being scratched Saturday versus the Wild.

MacDermid doesn't stand much of a chance at getting playing time unless the Devils rest their regulars once they clinch a playoff spot. The 31-year-old is one of 15 healthy forwards on the roster, and Cody Glass (undisclosed) is day-to-day. MacDermid has not recorded a point in 22 appearances, adding 23 PIM and 38 hits while averaging just 5:40 of ice time per game as an old-school enforcer.

MacDermid was scratched for the sixth straight game in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche.

EDGE Analysis

MacDermid didn't get into the lineup against his former team -- he had been with the Avalanche for parts of the last three seasons. The Devils' forward group is healthy right now, so unless head coach Sheldon Keefe decides he needs extra physicality in the lineup, MacDermid is likely to sit more often than not. He's still in search of his first point this season while adding six shots on net, 23 PIM and 37 hits over 21 appearances.

MacDermid logged a season-high four hits in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Panthers.

EDGE Analysis

MacDermid has a short-term path to playing time while Stefan Noesen (illness) and Erik Haula (ankle) are out. Even if he continues to suit up, MacDermid will have extremely limited minutes on the fourth line -- his 6:36 of ice time Tuesday was his fourth-highest total of the season. He doesn't have a point this season while adding five shots on net, 29 hits and 19 PIM across 17 appearances.

MacDermid has been scratched for eight of the Devils' last 10 games after sitting out Tuesday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.

The Devils look to be finding ways to avoid playing MacDermid -- amid a run of injuries to forwards, call-ups took over the vacated fourth-line spots in the lineup. MacDermid has no points, 20 hits and 17 PIM over 12 appearances this season. Since Nathan Bastian has returned from a jaw injury, it's even less likely MacDermid will play much, as the Devils don't need two enforcers in the lineup.

MacDermid had one shot on net, three blocks and one hit over 6:24 of ice time in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Canadiens.

EDGE Analysis

MacDermid made a second consecutive start and toiled away on the fourth line. He's been in the active lineup after the Devils sustained injuries to Curtis Lazar (knee) and Nathan Bastian (jaw). Lazar is estimated to return sometime next week while Bastian's injury could sideline him until the end of the month. MacDermid is fond of throwing his body around and could rack up a significant amount of hits in any game in which he's active.

MacDermid has played in just three of the Devils' 13 games so far.

MacDermid is an out-and-out enforcer -- he's fought twice in his three games while adding six hits. The 30-year-old defenseman-turned-forward appears to be an option only when the Devils think they'll need extra toughness in the lineup or when a winger is injured. He had three points, 73 PIM and 83 hits over 45 regular-season outings between Colorado and New Jersey in 2023-24.

MacDermid agreed to terms on a three-year, $3.45 million contract with New Jersey on Friday.

EDGE Analysis

MacDermid will remain with the Devils after joining the club at the trade deadline this last season. In his 16 appearances for the club, the 30-year-old winger managed just one point to go with 29 hits, two blocks and 50 PIM. The decision to give MacDermid a three-year deal does seem a little surprising when you consider he averaged a meager 4:22 of ice time. Looking ahead to next season, MacDermid probably shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy value given his limited minutes and lack of offensive upside.
