Timonen (blood clots) will join the Blackhawks on Sunday and participate in practice, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports. Friday's surprise deal that sent Timonen to the Blackhawks for two draft picks will delay his season debut a bit, but after getting in a skate with his new team, he should be ready to the play Monday against the Hurricanes. It remains to be seen where exactly coach Joel Quenneville will slot the 39-year-old in his lineup, but the expectation is that he'll pair up with one of the Blackhawks' top two blueliners, Duncan Keith or Brent Seabrook.

Timonen (blood clots in leg) was traded to the Blackhawks on Friday for a 2015 second-round draft pick and a 2016 conditional draft pick, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports. The Flyers made no secret of their desire to trade away Timonen to a contending club in what will be his final NHL season, but it was thought that he'd receive at least a one-game audition Saturday before a team acquired him. Instead, the Blackhawks, who were apparently convinced by the reports from the Flyers about the blueliner's health following his season-long bout with blood clots, decided to swoop in with the surprise acquisition. Coach Joel Quenneville has repeatedly tinkered with his defensive pairings for the last several games, and the addition of Timonen should add yet another interesting wrinkle to those plans. Even as he nears age 40, Timonen still offers plenty of offensive upside on the blue line, and makes for a strong speculative pickup based on his new surroundings. Expect him to make his season and team debut Monday against the Hurricanes.

Timonen (leg) said after Thursday's morning skate that he is "good to go" for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. With Timonen declaring himself ready, it will now be up to coach Craig Berube to decide whether or not to use him. Timonen has shown no issues with the blood clot in his leg since he resumed skating, so the expectation is that the Flyers will formally activate him from their non-roster injury list. In order to make room for Timonen's return, the Flyers are expected to send Carlo Colaiacovo to AHL Lehigh Valley.

Timonen (leg) indicated that the earliest he will play is Saturday against the Rangers, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Timonen, who has been practicing since Feb. 17, is taking things a step at a time, and will thus miss at least two more games. "I feel it's going the right way," Timonen noted in advance of Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes. "I just have to feel I'm 100 percent when I'm out there."

Timonen (leg) will travel with the Flyers on their upcoming two-game road trip, but it's no guarantee that he'll be cleared to return Tuesday or Thursday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. He's making progress, as evidence by his return to practice last week, and that he was on the ice Monday while his teammates received a day off. For now, consider his potential activation from IR to be a day-to-day situation.

Timonen (blood clots) took part in his first full practice with the Flyers on Wednesday, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The 39-year-old didn't see much contact in his first activity with teammates since the summer, but he should steadily increase his involvement over the next few days. Timonen hasn't ruled out a return to action for Tuesday's tilt with the Hurricanes, but the Flyers' games on either Feb. 26 or 28 sound like the more realistic target dates for his season debut. The blueliner did rule out the idea of getting in a conditioning game with AHL Lehigh Valley prior to his return, so it looks like he'll continue to practice with the Flyers until receiving the green light to play.

Timonen (blood clots) indicated Tuesday that he still needs about 10 days before he's ready to return to action, Sarah Baicker of CSN Philly reports. With that in mind, Baicker suggests that the Flyers' Feb. 28 contest against the Rangers could represent a plausible return target for the veteran blueliner.

Timonen (blood clots) will begin practicing with the Flyers on Tuesday, Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.Timonen has been limited to skating on his own as he eases his way back into action after he receiving clearance to resume his career earlier this month. The Flyers were initially targeting Feb. 21 for Timonen's season debut, but GM Ron Hextall has since backed away from that return date, suggesting the blueliner would probably need a little more time to get conditioned. With Timonen planning to retire after the season, the Flyers are hoping he can return to action for at least a game or two before the Mar. 2 trade deadline in an effort to showcase himself to a playoff-bound team in need of help on defense.

Timonen (blood clots) is tentatively targeting a return to the lineup Feb. 28 against the Rangers, Randy Miller of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.Timonen resumed his rehab activity last Friday and will require a couple more weeks of working out to get back to full strength after being sidelined since August with the blood clots. The Flyers will see how Timonen progresses in his subsequent sessions over the next several days before a return date will be more accurately pinpointed. If Timonen does indeed return before the end of February, it might be enough to convince playoff contenders to make a trade for the 39-year-old in what will mark his last NHL season.

Timonen (blood clots), who skated with the Flyers on Friday, believes he is at least two weeks away from returning to game action, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Friday's session was the start of a de facto training camp for Timonen, who has been off the ice since August, when he was first diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and right leg. The clots in his lungs have since dissipated, and while his leg isn't fully cleared of the issue, doctors don't believe Timonen's desire to continue playing will have significant long-term consequences. At this point, it appears the only hurdle in the way for Timonen is simply to get conditioned. Once healthy, the 39-year-old would likely reclaim a top-four role on defense for the Flyers after leading all of the team's blueliners in scoring with 35 points a season ago.
