The Blackhawks traded Simpson and defenseman Nick Leddy to the Islanders on Saturday in exchange for three prospects, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Simpson amounts as just a throw-in to the deal, after his prospect stock sank following an ugly showing for AHL Rockford last season (3.64 GAA, .891 save percentage in 31 games). He's expected to split time with Kevin Poulin at AHL Bridgeport in 2014-15.

Kent Simpson was returned to the minors on Thursday. He was up with the Blackhawks on emergency recall because of injuries to Corey Crawford and Nikolai Khabibulin. Simpson made one appearance during his NHL call up when he relieved Antti Raanta during a 7-3 loss to Toronto on Dec. 14. He allowed two goals on seven shots in that contest.

Kent Simpson has been recalled by Chicago. Simpson hasn't posted impressive statistics in the minors this campaign with Rockford. He has a 6-7-0 record, with a 3.38 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in 15 AHL contests. He will back up Antti Raanta while Corey Crawford is sidelined.

Chicago has signed goalie prospect Kent Simpson to a three-year deal. He spent the majority of the 2011-12 campaign with the WHL's Everett Silvertips, where he registered a 20-31-7 record, including two shutouts, with a .909 save percentage and a 3.33 GAA 60 games. Simpson also made his AHL debut with Rockford this past season and stopped 38 of the 41 shots he faced in a shootout loss to Charlotte on April 14.
