Benn signed a professional tryout with the Stars on Tuesday, per CapFriendly.
EDGE Analysis
Benn spent last season in the Toronto organization, compiling two points in 12 games at the NHL level and six points in 23 outings with the AHL club. The 36-year-old defenseman made his NHL debut with the Stars in 2011-12. Should Benn get a full contract with Dallas, it'd likely be a two-way deal, and his path to the NHL roster is crowded by a number of younger blueliners.

Benn was placed on waivers by Toronto on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Benn has a goal and two points in 12 games with the Maple Leafs this season. If he clears waivers, he'll probably be reassigned to the AHL's Marlies where he's recorded a goal and an assist in four contests in 2022-23.

Benn has dressed for four of the Leafs' last 16 games.
EDGE Analysis
He has a minus-3 rating with eight hits and six blocks in those four games, and he's played just 12 games (one goal, one assist) over the season. Benn is a depth defender who can be exposed on the ice if he tries too hard -- he's much better when he plays a simple, straight-ahead game. And that's not really the Leafs' style, although he might be a more prototypical playoff guy. Benn is an undrafted 35-year-old who has carved out 607 NHL games with six teams over 12 seasons.

Benn left Wednesday's game versus the Devils with an upper-body injury, David Alter of Sports Illustrated reports.
EDGE Analysis
Head coach Sheldon Keefe is unsure how long Benn might be sidelined. The defenseman will undergo further evaluation, with an update possible for Thursday. At this point, it seems questionable at best for Benn to play Friday versus the Wild, but he's yet to be officially ruled out.
