Ortio agreed to terms Wednesday on a one-year deal with Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey, Roger Millions of Sportsnet Calgary reports.

Even if he can manage a return to the NHL, and at this point that seems like a long shot, owners may want to wait to see some positive results before taking a flyer on Ortio.

The Oilers have the 26th-ranked offense, but the Flames are the worst defensive team in the league, making this a matchup to avoid altogether.

Ortio landed back in the loss column Thursday after allowing three goals on 29 shots in a shutout defeat at the hands of the Kings.

As the guy currently on top of the sad, sunken totem pole that is the Flames' goalie depth chart, Ortio's started three of the last four games, but coming away with wins remains a challenge. Despite the loss, over his last 11 appearances, Ortio's bucked the Calgary trend simply by posting approximately league-average stats -- a .913 save percentage and 2.32 GAA.

With a back-to-back set on tap for the Flames on Wednesday and Thursday, he will take the first night off in favor of game 2. In doing so, Ortio will avoid an Anaheim club averaging 3.00 goals per game in March) but will instead face the Kings, who have actually been a tad better (3.07 goals per game). While the youngster has been the best of the three netminders lately, it wouldn't be surprising if the team continues to split the starts between the three options.
