Goalie Start: No lineup changes for the Kings; Quick starts. dailyfaceoff.com Fri 10/11/13 2:56 PM

Quick allowed three goals on 25 shots in a 4-3 OT win over the Senators on Wednesday. Still not a great performance but he got the win after two straight losses. His 3.13 GAA and .890 SV% are expected to improve.

THE GOALIE EDGE: 10/11/2013 primepucks.com Fri 10/11/13 2:18 PM

THE GOALIE EDGE - 10/10/2013 The Devils continue their Western Canada swing with a game against the Calgary Flames. Although the Flames have been playing well so far this season, look for the Devils, behind Martin Brodeur, to get their first win of the season.  Joey Macdonald's numbers aren't that impressive at 3.30 GA and .895 SP and neither are Brodeur's, but New Jersey needs to win here....Kevin Poulin will get his first start of the season for the NY Islanders but it is coming against Nikolai Khabibulin and the Chicago Blackhawks.  The Bulin Wall had decent numbers with Edmonton last year and can still play.  Nabokov is off to a good start but the Isles decided it was time to give Poulin the nod.   Look for this to be a battle as the Islanders will bring their high-octane offense to Chicago but the nod goes to the hometown team....Steve Mason has carried over his fine play from the end of last season so the Flyers should prevail over a tired Phoenix Coyotes squad who played last night against Detroit.  No confirmation on the Coyotes goaltender yet....Jeff Zatkoff gets his NHL debut tonight against the Florida Panthers.  Zatkoff had excellent numbers last season with the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, going 26-20-0 with a 1.93 GAA and .920 SP.  Still, this is his first start in the big leagues.  Look for Scott Clemmensen to start between the pipes for Florida.  Jacob Markstrom will be playing on back-to-back nights if he starts....Jonathan Quick and Cam Ward are struggling at the start of the season and tonight, both will face each other.  The question is, who will right their season, and who will have to wait another day?  Both have GAAs of over 3.00 with Ward closer to 4.00.  My vote is on Quick and the LA Kings who had a night off yesterday while the Canes edged the Washington Caps....Dallas at Winnipeg doesn't have that sexy appeal as other matchups, but Kari Lehtonen and Ondrej Pavelec can play at elite levels, they are just not consistent at it. Evenly matched but side with the home team Jets. FANTASY MUST-STARTS Steve Mason, Phoenix vs. Philadelphia Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles vs. Carolina SLEEPER ALERT None. DAILY GOALIE PICKS Steve Steve Mason(3-7) Ray   Steve Mason (4-6) Mike   TBA (4-5)

DAILY PRIME- OCTOBER 10, 2013: HALAK, CARTER, BROWN AND MORE primepucks.com Thu 10/10/13 8:06 AM

St. Louis goaltender Jaroslav Halak outdueled Corey Crawford and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks, resulting in a 3-2 victory behind a 26-save effort.  We said a few days ago that if Halak stayed hot, Coach Ken Hitchcock would continue to play him.  For now, Brian Elliott stays on the bench. St Louis has a solid team and they will compete for the Cup this season....One of our favorite defensemen, Alex Pietrangelo, had two assists last night. We think this could be a huge year for him.... Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane both scored on the power play for the Blackhawks. We are a little wary of Chicago suffering the old Stanley Cup Hangover....Crawford has looked a little shaky in goal for the Blackhawks with Ray Emery gone to Philadelphia. He has a big contract and no competition for his job, and, he really has had only the one good year.  Hmmm! Welcome back Carter: The Kings have one pure sniper in forward Jeff Carter. Carter had two goals and an assist in the Kings game last night.  The amazing thing is that he had an assist.  It was his first of the year, while he has scored four goals.  Carter could have a big season, especially in the goal scoring department. Bobby Ryan had a goal and an assist for the Senators. Ryan is going to get the top quality ice time in Ottawa that he did not get in Anaheim.  Expect him to have a great year....Captain Dustin Brown had two goals for the Kings. Brown is a little streaky, so don't expect too much from him... Jonathan Quick is struggling a bit in goal for Los Angeles. He does not look like the goalie who won the Stanley Cup a few years ago. Although the Canadiens lost last night, the kid line still looks good, Lars Eller had a goal and Alex Galchenyuk had an assist. Calgary forward Sven Baertshi scored a goal. He is probably off most fantasy players radar scope, but we think he has a lot of potential and could suprise people.  Don't overlook him.

Goalie Start: Quick will start for the Kings. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 10/10/13 12:56 AM

Quick allowed three goals on 28 shots including a rink-long goal that he drastically misplayed. Starting the season 1-2-0 with a 3.18 GAA and .893 SV% was not what Quick owners were looking for, but do not panic he will be fine. He will likely go head-to-head with Craig Anderson, in what should be a great goaltending battle.

THE GOALIE EDGE: 10/9/2013 primepucks.com Wed 10/9/13 2:12 PM

THE GOALIE EDGE - 10/9/2013 Only 3 games on the slate tonight, the first match will tell a lot about Jaroslav Halak and the St. Louis Blues as they take on the defending Champion Chicago Blackhawks. Halak is off to a terrific start and may just have a bit of an advantage playing on home ice in this one.  Chicago will prove to be a much tougher opponent than the Florida Panthers.  If he continues his fine play in the crease, that would be a boost to the Blues.....Montreal is heading to Calgary and could be in for a surprise if they don't take the Flames seriously.  G Carey Price must be focused in these types of games if he ever wants to reach the ultra-elite status as an NHL goaltender.  Max Pacioretty is returning after missing a game  with an injured wrist, so that should help the offense.  Joey MacDonald played well in his last outing against the Vancouver Canucks but let the game slip away in the 3rd period. The Habs have it....Another tough goalie matchup for the LA Kings as Craig Anderson will be pitted against Jonathan Quick, who should be determined to let his last game's gaffe fade away from his memory.  This is surely a tossup but give the slight edge to the home team Kings. FANTASY MUST-STARTS Carey Price, Montreal vs. Calgary SLEEPER ALERT None DAILY GOALIE PICKS Steve Jonathan Quick (2-6) Ray   Carey Price (4-4) Mike   Carey Price (4-3)

DAILY PRIME- OCTOBER 8, 2013: BE-DEVILED, RANGERS CROWN KINGS & A N... primepucks.com Tue 10/8/13 8:06 AM

The New Jersey Devils looked like they were cruising to a solid road victory heading into the 3rd period before the Edmonton Oilers offense exploded for four unanswered goals before veteran Patrik Elias tied the game with less than a minute remaining. Martin Brodeur looked like his old self until the 5 minute mark of the 3rd period, but things started to fall apart for the Marty and the Devils defense....Even though there were four different goal scorers for the Oilers, the most important was Ryan-Nugent Hopkins, whose return from shoulder surgery re-vitalized the Oiler's offense last night. He looks good to start in all fantasy leagues....RW Damien Brunner looks like a terrific signing by the Devs as he potted his 3rd goal of the season and also added an assist. Now promoted to the top power play unit, the Slick Swiss import is playing well and has a way of finding the net.  Pick him up if he is available as New Jersey is in need of scoring and it has to come from someone....D Marek Zidlicky looks like he is back to his old scoring ways as he now has 3 points in 3 games. Play him with confidence....G Cory Schneider gets the nod tonight against his former team, the Vancouver Canucks. There will be a lot of fanfare before the game as the press will be all over Schneider in his return.  Plus, he is going up against his friend and ex-teammate, Roberto Luongo. Other Fantasy Game Notes: A light schedule with only 2 games on the plate, the other being the NY Rangers against the LA Kings.  The Rangers continued their season-opening long road trip as they put the finishing touches on the restoration of Madison Square Garden.  Both goaltenders played well except that LA goaltender Jonathan Quick played a clearing shot by Ranger D-man Ryan McDonagh into his own net, but the Kings couldn't get much past Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers came away with a 3-1 victory....The return of Ryan Callahan seemed to have done wonders for last year's whipping boy, Brad Richards, even though they did not play on the same line, as he scored his first 2 goals, one being the game-winner. Look for a bounce back year from the vet...Rick Nash and Derek Stepan are warming up after Stepan's camp holdout as the former had 2 assists and the latter one in last night's contest. The weekly IN STEVE'S DEFENSE is out with some interesting defensmen who may still be available in your fantasy league. Read it here!

Quick will look to rebound tonight after a rough start on Friday. He allowed four goals on 27 shots in a 5-3 loss to the Jets. Quick now sports a 3.26 GAA and .893 SV% early in the 2013-14 season. He will face the 0-1-0 Rangers, who only scored one goal in their first game.
