FANTASY MUST STARTS
Number 9, number 9, number 9....Not your typical Beatles song and definitely not your typical Monday night slate of games, but being that it's Thanksgiving week in the United States, we are being served up nicely to start the week. In a battle of Yellow & Black, Pittsburgh heads to Boston to take on the Bruins. The last time these two teams met, the Penguins prevailed with a 3-2 victory but Tuukka Rask should get the better of Marc-Andre Fleury in this rematch. This is one to watch....In TO, James Reimer gets the nod against Sergei Bobrovsky (LIKELY) and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Reimer gets a second straight start after playing a solid game against the Caps on Saturday. This should be an easy one for the Leafs, only if they are not looking ahead to the Penguins on Wednesday....The old man has shown that he still got it with his play of late. Martin Brodeur, after losing a tough one in San Jose 2-1, should be back in net against the visiting Winnipeg Jets. Expect Ondrej Pavelec in net for the Jets even though he has lost 3 straight as backup Al Montoya hasn't done anything to steal the starting job away, giving up 4 regulation goals in his last 2 starts. The Devils on home ice should get them back on track.... Another one to watch is the NY Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist against Tampa Bay Lightning's wonder, Ben Bishop. This will be a tight chess match but expect the King to topple Bishop down in Florida....Steve Mason and the Philadelphia Flyers have been on a roll lately, winning 6 of their last 7. The Flyers had taken a while to get accustomed to Head Coach Craig Berube's system, but it seems to be working like a gem. The Panthers and Tim Thomas have been playing better but are still inconsistent as they have a 3-2-1 record in their past 6 after losing 9 straight. Mason and the Flyers are just playing real well to go against them...We have two hot teams in St. Louis and Minnesota butting heads tonight as Jaroslav Halak (LIKELY) goes up against Niklas Backstrom. Anyone's game as both teams are battling to stay close to the Western Conference leaders....Expect Nashville's Marek Mazanec (LIKELY) to continue his fine play especially at home. He goes against Mike Smith and the Phoenix Coyotes. Mazanec and the Predators should play a tight game against the Coyotes and eke out a W.....Corey Crawford (LIKELY) and the Chicago Blackhawks travel to Edmonton to take on a rejuvenated ...
Injury: Kings GM Dean Lombardi said that Jonathan Quick (groin) wil... dailyfaceoff.com Wed 11/20/13 2:56 PM
Quick will likely be out until Christmas, which means Ben Scrivens will serve as a viable fantasy option for another month. Scrivens is 4-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .963 SV% with two shutouts since becoming the Kings starter. For those of you who picked Scrivens up, he is a legit high-end number-2 fantasy backstop option with Quick out. This is a tough break for Quick, because this could hurt his chances of making Team U.S.A's Olympic team.
DAILY PRIME - NOVEMBER 18, 2013: HOW 'QUICK'-LY WE FORGET primepucks.com Mon 11/18/13 8:13 AM
With another dominating performance in the 37-save shutout over the New York Rangers, Ben Scrivens has been "lights out" in the King's crease going 4-1-1 with a 1.24 GAA and .955 SP. If you hadn't already, it's time to pluck this guy off the waiver wire while he is the interim King's starting goalie in Jonathan Quick's long-term absence. Scrivens played well last season for Toronto when James Reimer was out, so he does have a positive track record, albeit a limited one. At the very least, if you own Quick, you should own Scrivens.
Patrick Very "Sharp": With two goals and an assist, including the game-winner against San Jose, Patrick Sharp remains on fire with 3G/6A over the last five games. We told you to "buy low" when he was struggling, but now he is well on a point-per-game pace the rest of the way with 20 points in 21 games. Legit 35+goal/75+pt. potential for the Chicago winger, so enjoy the ride if he is yours.
More Fantasy Game Notes: Mikko Koivu scored both goals for the Wild 2-1 win over Winnipeg, giving him 6 points in the last 5 games. The talented Finn is getting "hot", so make sure that he is starting.. Braden Holtby continues his ascent up the fantasy goalie rankings, as the Washington goalie stymied the Blue's offense with 46 saves. His overall numbers now stand at 10-6 with a .925 GAA... With Mike Green out to injury, John Carlson has elevated his offensive play with six points in the last five games. He played 4:35 minutes on the power-play night, second only to Alex Ovechkin. He is worth starting this week..

Ben Scrivens-Los Angeles Kings, G (Owned in 67.4% of ESPN leagues)
In place of the injured Jonathan Quick, the King's back-stopper shut out the Devils and Rangers, while allowing only two goals to the Isles. Three straight wins during a brutal East Coast swing for the Kings, so Scrivens has boosted his fantasy stock in a huge way. For all Quick fantasy owners, snag him immediately, but even if you don't own Quick- go get him! For the next 3-6 weeks, he could give you elite fantasy goalie value while playing for one of the upper-tier NHL teams. A no-brainer here.
Brayden Schenn- Philadelphia Flyers, C (Owned in 42.1% of ESPN leagues)
The Flyer's offense has been surging as of late, so it's time to get your hands on the talented 22-year old while he is in amidst a scoring streak (3G/2A in the last 5 games). True, he doesn't play on the top unit with Claude Giroux, but he has been flourishing on a line with Vincent Lecavalier. With 12 points in 19 games overall, Schenn remains under the radar, but he could provide sneaky production as a 5th or 6th forward option.
Alex Burrows- Vancouver Canucks, LW (Owned in 64.9% of ESPN leagues)
Ever since returning from a foot injury, the streaky winger has struggled to find his offensive groove with 3 points in 8 games. However, with reports that he will be placed back on the top line with the Sedin twins while Kesler has been shifted back to the second unit, we recommend that you consider taking a gamble on Burrows. He has enjoyed much success in this position before, but has been limited by lack of power-play time. The former 30-goal scorer is worth your look.
Alex Goligoski- Dallas Stars, D (Owned in 44.3% of ESPN leagues)
There has been definite signs of life from the slumping defenseman, who is coming off a 3-assist game but only had 2 goals and an assist in the previous 17 games. With veteran Sergei Gonchar failing to seize hold of the top power-play quarterback spot with an equally putrid offensive showing in the early going, coach Lindsey Ruff has given Goligoski top minutes after making him a healthy scratch. Considering how solid he was in '12-13 with 27 points in 47 games, don't hesitate to pick him up. This could be a perfect "buy-low" opportunity for a d-man capable of putting up 40+ points.
Kevin Poulin- New York Islanders, G ( (Owned in 4.8% of ESPN leagues)
With goaltender Evgeni Nabokov suffering a groin injury early in the first period on Saturday night for the Islanders, the 23-year old ...
DAILY PRIME NOVEMBER 16, 2013: MILLER TIME, SCRIVENS TOO, NEAL IS B... primepucks.com Sat 11/16/13 9:00 AM
There were 10 games in the NHL last night and there is a lot to report on. Let me start out with Ottawa forward Bobby Ryan who was hit in the head by Boston defenseman Dennis Seidenberg and was forced to leave the game. Ryan had been enjoying a solid season with the Senators, so this is a big loss if he is out for a while. Columbus forward Marian Gaborik has a knee sprain, and he is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.
Miller time:
Solid effort last night in goal by Ryan Miller of Buffalo with 32 saves as he outdueled goaltender Jonathan Bernier of Toronto in a 3-1 win. Miller had 32 saves and was very sharp. He has won his last 2 games, and Buffalo looks more focused after their GM and Coaching changes. While Miller is only 4-11 on the season, he may be someone to store on your bench. Sabre defenseman Christian Ehroff got his first goal of the season, even if it was an emptynetter. This guy has been a big disappointment with only 5 points on the season.
Quick who?:
It may be Miller time in Buffalo, but its Scrivens time in LA. Kings goaltender Ben Scrivens was really flashing the leather last night in a shutout of the admittedly offensively challenged New Jersey Devils. Scrivens had 26 saves, and it looks like he will fill in nicely for Jonathan Quick while he is out. Kings forward Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist, and with 19 points in 20 games he is having a nice comeback year. Devils goaltender Cory Schneider played well, but he remains stuck at only one win this season. Nightmare year for him.
The real Neal:
Pittsburgh forward James Neal is back, and back with a vengence as he scored a goal and an assist last night. His linemate Evgeni Malkin was clearly invigorated as he scored 2 assists. Look for these guys to start lighting it up going forward. Nashville has thankfully completed the end of a 7 game road trip, but with Pekka Rinne out their goaltending is a mess as neither Hutton or Mazanec look to be any type of solution. Solid effort by Marc-Andre Fleury in goal for Pittsburgh, although he only had to make 17 saves. Fleury has good numbers with a 11-5 record a 2.00 goals against and a .922 save percentage. He is a top goaltender.
Staal scores:
The Hurricanes stole one from the suddenly struggling Ducks with a 3-2 win in a shootout. Justin Peters was sharp in goal for Carolina with 28 saves. Peters has been playing well although his record is only 4-5-1, but his numbers are good with a 2.29 goals against and a .923 save percentage. ...

The New Jersey Devils turn to Cory Schneider in net as they face a Kings team coming off a tough-earned 3-2 comeback victory the night before against the Isles on the road. This is a tough spot for Los Angeles, who will start feeling the loss of franchise goalie Jonathan Quick sooner than later. Ben Scrivens (LIKELY) gets the start again. The Devils have been red-hot, winning 3 of the last four games. Martin Brodeur has been the main beneficiary of the sudden winning streak, so look for Schneider to be plenty motivated in this one. We are hot for the Devs.... Will the Pittsburgh Penguins extend their losing streak to four tonight? Heck, no. The perfect remedy to such a losing streak is a date with a far more inept Nashville team and their over-matched backup to the backup goalie, Marek Mazanec. Marc-Andre Fleury wins easy for the Pens....Tim Thomas starts for the Florida Panthers but this is a revenge match for Josh Harding and company as the Wild lost to the Panthers their last time out. It won't happen again, as Harding will continue his masterful goaltending and further entrench himself as the Wild's No. 1 guy, ahead of the injured Niklas Backstrom....If you feel like "swinging for the fences", take the streaking Steve Mason and the suddenly dangerous Flyers on the road against Winnipeg. There could be a small letdown following their grueling victory at Pittsburgh, but Claude Giroux has been playing himself back into the conversation of elite NHL forwards. Take a chance on Mason.... Columbus, in the second of back-to-back games, will be facing a desperate Montreal club, who will be pumped for a win. Peter Budaj will be in goal for the Canadiens, but he has been razor sharp in spot duty. Bobrovsky played in last night's tilt against Boston so expect Curtis McElhinney (LIKELY) to get his 4th start of the season. Go Habs, go!....The Anaheim Ducks sent Frederik Andersen back to the AHL as Viktor Fasth (LIKELY) returns from the IR. Fasth will be thrown into action immediately against the Carolina Hurricanes especially after last night's embarrassing 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. With Justin Peters is in net for the Canes. Peters has won 3 of his last 4 all on home ice, so this could be another upset in the making. Actually, this one can go either way depending on which of the two teams decides to show up....Braden Holtby and the Washington Capitals look to gain some momentum from their win over Columbus but playing Detroit on the road is no ...
DAILY PRIME - NOVEMBER 15, 2013: WE THREE KINGS & THE 2 BRIGHT STARS primepucks.com Fri 11/15/13 8:35 AM
Islander goalie Kevin Poulin was on the verge of taking a stranglehold on the No. 1 job on Long Island until three young and very talented Kings scored in the 3rd period. Poulin was holding a shutout of Los Angeles until the 3rd period when D Slava Voynov (23-years old) broke the ice and then 7 minutes later 21-year old LW Tanner Pearson scored his 12st NHL goal in his 1st NHL regular season game to knot the score. 21-year old C Tyler Toffoli scored the game-winner with just under a minute and a half left in the game. It was Toffoli's 7th point in 5 games this season. Grab him if you can as he is the real deal. With Jeff Carter out with an injury, Toffoli will be counted on for his offense.... Kings G Ben Scrivens was good enough for the win, stopping 23 of 25 SOG, as he started in place of injured Jonathan Quick. Quick will miss 4-6 weeks with a groin strain.... Poulin had the game in control until the 3rd, so you may see Evgeni Nabokov back in the crease against Detroit on Saturday.
Dallas Star LW Jamie Benn (G, 5A) had a 6-point night and Tyler Seguin (4G, A) had 5-points against Calgary last night as both exploded against the porous Flame goaltending. Christmas came early for those fantasy owners of these two stars as they just had their way all night long. For Seguin & Benn, that's 12 & 11 points, respectively, in the last 9 games. Don't expect nights like these too often, but it's nice to relish in the moment.....Stars G Kari Lehtonen started his 11th straight game and has gone 7-3-1 in that span. Ride him with confidence.
More Fantasy Game Notes: The Tampa Bay Lightning haven't skipped a beat since Superstar Steven Stamkos went down with a broken leg. After beating the Canadiens 2-1 in Montreal, the Bolts returned home to take on the Western Conference-leading Anaheim Ducks. If you were wondering who was going to step up for the injured Stamkos, you may not have to look any further than Valterri Filppula. Filppula had a 3--point night by scoring 2 goals and an assist. Now, don't expect him to score like Stamkos, but if this game is any indication, Filppula is up for the challenge. ...The Ducks were without their leader Ryan Getzlaf for a second straight game....The Great Dane Frederik Andersen was sent back to the AHL after Viktor Fasth was re0instated from the IR. Stash the Danish goaltender away if you are in deep keeper leagues as he showed his ability to play at the NHL level....St. Louis put a hurting on the Colorado goaltending by ...
