The Sharks have recalled McCarthy from AHL Barracuda.
EDGE Analysis
According to CSN Bay Area's Kevin Kurz, the Sharks will be without wingers Ben Smith (upper body) and Joonas Donskoi (lower body), for Saturday's contest against the Hurricanes. Enter McCarthy, a depth forward that commonly gets called up when injuries strike the parent club.

McCarthy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sharks on Thursday, Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News reports. After opening the past season with AHL Chicago in the St. Louis organization, McCarthy finished up the campaign at AHL Worcester, where he had played the previous five years. He'll stick around with the organization that drafted him, but his middling production in the minor-league ranks likely won't put him on the cusp of a promotion.

McCarthy was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Friday, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. McCarthy was recalled from the minors just two days earlier to serve as an extra forward, but ended up being dropped from the 23-man roster after the Blues activated Carl Gunnarsson (concussion) from injured reserve Friday. The winger is strictly an organizational depth option for the Blues, as he'll likely only be called up to the parent club on a temporary basis when injuries occur.

McCarthy was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Sunday, NHL.com reports. McCarthy, who appeared in 36 games for the Sharks last season, doesn't figure to see anywhere close to that amount of run with the Blues this season, should he eventually warrant an appointment to the NHL club. He'll likely remain at Chicago for the majority of the campaign, serving as little more than organizational forward depth.
