He'll stick around with the organization that drafted him, but his middling production in the minor-league ranks likely won't put him on the cusp of a promotion.

McCarthy was recalled from the minors just two days earlier to serve as an extra forward, but ended up being dropped from the 23-man roster after the Blues activated Carl Gunnarsson (concussion) from injured reserve Friday. The winger is strictly an organizational depth option for the Blues, as he'll likely only be called up to the parent club on a temporary basis when injuries occur.

McCarthy was recalled from AHL Chicago on Wednesday. McCarthy, who has recorded seven points over 22 games in the minors this season, will provide the Blues with offensive depth. Forward Colin Fraser was also recalled for a similar purpose.
