Johan Franzen suffered a lower-body injury on Thursday. Franzen wasn't available for the third period of Detroit's 2-0 loss to San Jose as a result. "They'll go back and take a look at him," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "Obviously he couldn't play (in the third). It was serious enough to leave the game." Franzen previously missed seven contests this season with a hip injury.

The Detroit Red Wings have scored power play goals in each of their last six games on the road. The Red Wings really struggled early on as they were scoreless on the power play during the first 10 road games. Johan Franzen and Pavel Datsyuk found the back of the net on Monday with the man-advantage.

When you consider his skill, that trend has to go the other way soon enough. Before this slump, he was his usual borderline point-per-game self.

General manager Ken Holland was optimistic that both players could return on this two-game trip that begins Thursday. Holland also said it's possible Brendan Smith (shoulder) and Carlo Colaiacovo (shoulder) could return to the lineup this week. Stay tuned.
