He has been productive in the AHL this year, though, racking up 11 goals and 17 assists through 30 games in Albany.

Whitney was one of several players optioned to Albany (AHL) on Sunday by the Devils, according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti. A creative albeit Brian Gionta-esque winger, Whitney has some potential to make an impact offensively at the NHL level, but he'll begin the season in the AHL where he will see regular ice time.
