Veleno was placed on unconditional waivers Sunday to buy out the final season of his two-year, $4.55 million contract.

Veleno's first 18 games with the Blackhawks saw him raise his play offensively with three goals and seven points in that span. He wrapped up the season with back-to-back games with a point and was a bright spot down the stretch on the Blackhawks' fourth line. He is signed through next season and should challenge for a middle-six role to begin the 2025-26 campaign.

Veleno produced an assist, three shots on goal, five hits and two PIM in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Penguins.

Veleno has two goals and three assists over his last seven games, which is solid work for a bottom-six forward. The 25-year-old wasn't able to find much consistency with the Red Wings prior to the trade deadline, but he's been a little better with the Blackhawks. Overall, he's at 15 points, 64 shots on net, 127 hits, 40 blocked shots, 15 PIM and a minus-20 rating over 69 appearances.

Veleno scored a goal in Sunday's 5-2 loss to Utah.

Veleno has four points over his last four games. The 25-year-old is seeing a larger role on the third line while Colton Dach (elbow) is injured and Jason Dickinson (wrist) is out for the season. Veleno is up to 14 points, 60 shots on net, 119 hits, 38 blocked shots and a minus-19 rating over 66 appearances. He's still not a strong option for most fantasy managers given his bottom-six deployment on a weak team.

Veleno registered an assist and three hits in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

Veleno has three points over his last three contests. The 25-year-old has played in nine of 10 games since he was traded to the Blackhawks from the Red Wings. He's not a lock for the lineup, but when he plays, he's often been in a bottom-six role. Veleno is up to 13 points, 59 shots on net, 118 hits, 37 blocked shots and a minus-18 rating over 65 appearances this season.

Veleno notched a goal and an assist in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Flyers.

Veleno cracked the scoresheet for the first time since Feb. 4, when he recorded an assist in a 5-4 shootout win over the Kraken, and he scored for the first time since Jan. 7, when he bagged a goal versus the Senators. These were his first two points since he was traded to the Blackhawks from the Red Wings. Fantasy managers can't overreact to this two-point performance, though, as the 25-year-old has recorded only 12 points in 63 appearances this season. Thus, his fantasy upside is minimal.

Veleno (illness) is slated to be in the lineup Thursday versus San Jose, Mark Lazerus of The Athletic reports.

Veleno missed practice Wednesday with his illness, but has not missed any game action. Veleno was dealt from Detroit at the deadline with Petr Mrazek going to Detroit. Veleno had five goals and five assists in 56 games with the Red Wings this season and has yet to hit the scoresheet in two games with Chicago since the trade.

Veleno is under the weather and wasn't on the ice for practice Wednesday, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

Veleno should tentatively be considered questionable for Thursday's matchup with the Sharks. In his two games with Chicago, the 25-year-old center has yet to register a point while generating six hits, two blocks and one shot. Even when healthy, Veleno is far from a lock to suit up on a nightly basis and could find himself serving as a healthy scratch periodically.
