The Montreal Canadiens have assigned defenseman Joe Callahan to Hamilton of the AHL. The Canadiens signed Callahan to a one-year, two-way contract and demoted him to Hamilton of the AHL.

Joe Callahan has been put on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens. If Callahan clears waivers, then Montreal will be able to sign him to a contract. With Andrei Markov and now perhaps Chris Campoli sidelined, the Canadiens might have Callahan temporarily serve as a top-six blueliner.
