The Oilers loaned Joensuu to SC Bern of Switzerland's National League A on Friday, Derek Van Diest of the Edmonton Sun reports. Joensuu cleared waivers earlier this month, but never ended up reporting to the Oilers' AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City. Since a return to the parent club's lineup wasn't forthcoming, he elected to jump at the opportunity to move back to Europe. The Oilers will retain his rights should he decide to return to North America at some point.

Joensuu has cleared waivers and will report to Oklahoma City of the AHL, according to the Oilers web site. Joensuu has limited offensive upside and is really nothing more than a fourth line player. He could be back up with Edmonton at some point this season but is unlikely to ever stick in one place for to long.

Oilers have placed Joensuu on waivers according to the Oilers web site. If Joensuu clears waivers he will be sent down to Oklahoma City of the AHL where he will provide the team with some depth at wing.

Joensuu registered a shorthanded goal in Saturday's loss to the Canucks. An unexpected breakaway allowed the Oilers to cash in with their penalty kill, as Joenssu put the puck past goalie Ryan Miller for his first tally of the season. It will likely amount to one of the few points of the campaign for Joensuu, who sees only limited minutes while scrapping on the Oilers' fourth line.

Jesse Joensuu has suffered a high ankle sprain. Joensuu is expected to miss at least four weeks, so the odds of him returning this season are slim. He has five points and 16 penalty minutes in 42 games in 2013-14.
