Zatkoff was recalled from AHL Cleveland on Friday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic Cleveland reports.

This move was solely to fill the league's two-goalie roster requirement, since backup Joonas Korpisalo was sent to minors for the All-Star break in order to continue getting game action. Zatkoff has played just two games in the AHL this season, allowing four goals on 48 shots for one win, and he's expected to return there after the All-Star break.

Zatkoff was dealt Monday to Columbus for future considerations.

The 30-year-old was immediately re-assigned to AHL Cleveland following the deal, where he'll likely spend the majority of the 2017-18 season. After seeing some ice time last season while Jonathon Quick was sidelined, Zatkoff has yet to participate in a game in the NHL or the minors this season, and will likely be an insurance policy in Columbus should one of its goaltenders suffer an injury.

Zatkoff was waived by the Kings on Tuesday, James Mirtle of The Athletic Toronto reports.

Last year, Zatkoff had a golden opportunity to step in for Jonathan Quick after he sustained a significant groin injury in the regular-season opener, but Zatkoff had trouble staying healthy himself and ended up relinquishing the No. 2 goalie spot to Peter Budaj, who ended up getting traded to the Lightning at the deadline. Zatkoff's NHL numbers from 2016-17 included a 2-7-1 record, 2.94 GAA and .879 save percentage, and he also struggled over eight games in the AHL. He'll presumably join the minor-league Reign in the likely event that he clears waivers.

Zatkoff is expected to remain with the Kings after clearing waivers Wednesday, LA Kings Insider reports.

EDGE Analysis

There was some talk of the Kings recalling Jack Campbell to serve as Peter Budaj's backup as they await the return of Jonathan Quick but Zatkoff will remain with the Kings for now. His days are numbered with Quick expected back in early-to-mid March however and won't carry any fantasy value with Budaj firmly entrenched as the team's starting netminder.

The Kings are taking the first step toward making room on the 23-man roster for Jonathan Quick (groin) by placing Zatkoff on waivers. If the 29-year-old clears, Los Angeles will then be able to move him down to the AHL once Quick is given the all clear. A career backup, the Detroit native may not garner a lot of interest from other teams; especially when you consider he has a 2-7-1 record this year with a 2.95 GAA.

Zatkoff allowed one goal on five shots in relief for Peter Budaj during a 5-0 loss to the Capitals on Sunday.

EDGE Analysis

The 29-year-old has started just one game over the last month and appeared in just two others in mop up duty, so he doesn't really get enough opportunities to be fantasy relevant. Zatkoff is 2-7-1 with a 3.24 GAA and .830 save percentage in 13 appearances.

Zatkoff could possibly be assigned to Ontario of the AHL via waivers while recalling Jack Campbell, according to team correspondence, reports.

EDGE Analysis

The team is reportedly unhappy with his play in the crease behind starter Peter Budaj, so Zatkoff could be on his way down. Either way, he has struggled lately and hasn't done much to endear himself to fantasy owners outside of the deepest of pools allowing daily transactions. When playing better, he can be a decent low-priced DFS option, especially when the matchup is favorable.

Zatkoff saved just 14 of 17 shots during Monday's loss to the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

Zatkoff has won just two of eight starts, and he entered Monday's game with an underwhelming 2.93 GAA and .886 save percentage. He's still a potential streamer in seasonal leagues and low-priced flier in daily contests, but he's done absolutely nothing this season to instill confidence.

Zatkoff led the team onto the ice for pregame warmups, indicating he'll be between the pipes Monday against the Rangers, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

This will be Zatkoff's first start since Jan. 9 and 12th appearance of the year, as Peter Budaj has been the man in the blue paint for the majority of 2016-17 thus far. The former Penguin has an ugly .886 save percentage to go with just two wins and a 2.93 GAA, making him as risky a play as any Monday against the Rangers in their home barn on Broadway.

Zatkoff stopped just 18 of 22 shots in Thursday's 4-0 loss to Detroit.

EDGE Analysis

Zatkoff gave up three goals in the first period, and never really had a chance despite his team's 34-22 advantage in shots. This performance was par the for the course in a season that has seen the former Penguin go 2-5-1 with a 2.84 GAA and .892 save percentage.
