Jean-Sebastien Giguere had a strong performance in net Saturday night against the Los Angeles Kings, allowing only one goal in the Colorado Avalanche's 3-1 win.
Giguere set aside 25 shots in his third straight win, a span in which he's given up five goals. With a 2.06 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and 12-6-1 record on the year, the Avs are at the point now that they should roll with him for awhile as he's simply the more reliable option in net. Semyon Varlamov may be talented, but for a team with legitimate playoff aspirations (they've claimed the eighth spot now), he's been far too inconsistent. The Avs play Anaheim on Sunday, so it will be interesting to see who gets the call.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere will get the nod for Colorado again on Saturday versus Los Angeles.
It will mark his second consecutive start and fourth in five games. Giguere might even face the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, but that decision won't come until afterward.

Goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere was outstanding in the Colorado Avalanche's 4-3 overtime victory against the visiting Florida Panthers Wednesday night.
Giguere steered aside 26 of the 29 Florida shots he faced. Some of them were dazzling, and it wouldn't be surprising now if Giguere replaces Semyon Varlamov as the Avalanche's No. 1 goalie. Varlamov allowed six goals on 33 shots in a loss earlier this week.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere will play between the pipes on Wednesday.
That's hardly surprising, given that Varlamov allowed six goals on 33 shots on Monday. Varlamov is the one that the Avalanche want to be their number one goaltender, but Jean-Sebastien Giguere has outplayed him all season and at this rate, he'll probably end up starting in at least half of the Avalanche's remaining games.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere has started in three of the Avs' last four games.
Giguere was named the second star in Saturday's win over Dallas Saturday so this will not change anytime soon. Although no one in the Colorado organization is saying so, it looks as if for now, as if Giguere is the starter and Semyon Varlamov is the backup.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 21 of 22 shots in a 2-1 victory Saturday.
Giguere snapped a two-game losing streak to earn his 10th victory of the season. Although Giguere is still technically the Avalanche's backup goaltender, he's sapped a lot of playing time from Semyon Varlamov over the past month. At this point, it'd be better to think of them as goaltenders 1 and 1A on the depth charts.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere will play between the pipes on Saturday.
Giguere stopped 32 of 35 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss Thursday. This will be Giguere's second straight start and could partially be the result of Semyon Varlamov having a slight knee bruise.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed three goals on 35 shots in Colorado's 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators Thursday night.
The Avalanche have been splitting the netminding duties between Giguere and Semyon Varlamov this season. Giguere battled through injuries and struggled between the pipes during his tenure with the Leafs, but he's found the fountain of youth in his first season with the Avalanche. Giguere has been a superb "backup" so far this season and gives the Avalanche much-added stability and veteran experience in both the regular season and playoffs. He should be owned in 14-team leagues.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed four goals on 39 shots in the Colorado Avalanche's 4-0 defeat to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
Giguere received the start in the second game of a back-to-back, but Semyon Varlamov may really have a chance to reclaim the bulk of starts again after this outing. Giguere has had quite the season -- 9-6-0 with a 2.08 goals-against average, .924 save percentage -- but it's clear that Varlamov has the upper hand if he can continue to remain consistent, which he's been over his last four starts (five goals allowed). Colorado has lost just two times in their last 11 games.
