Jason Blake (wrist) practiced with his teammates for the first time since cutting a tendon in his left wrist on October 14.
Blake was coached by Bruce Boudreau in Lowell of the AHL in the 2000-01 season so Boudreau had quite a good time after practice talking about it. Blake has been skating for the last five weeks and has been shooting and stickhandling of late but this was his first practice. "Right now it's about getting in shape, game shape," Blake said. "I have to practice with the guys here for a few days and re-evaluate it, see where I'm at. I've got to start strengthening my arm. I've been doing a lot with the wrist, but I have to strengthen my triceps and biceps." Blake was slated to miss three months and a return at the midway point in January would be right on schedule.

Jason Blake (wrist) is looking to return to action quicker than the three months forecast in mid-October.
Blake suffered a cut tendon in his left wrist on October 14 and after surgery three days later, it was thought he would be out until mid-January. But Blake would love to be back the first week of January. "You like to think you're a fast healer if you put the time in off the ice as much as you can to rehabilitate your hand and try to get your strength back," Blake said. "Hopefully you can come back sooner. That's my goal. Obviously I'd like to be playing the first week of January. If that's feasible, I don't know." Stay tuned.

Jason Blake suffered a bad cut on his wrist in the third period and did not return.
Blake fell during a faceoff draw and the skate of San Jose defenseman Brent Burns accidently cut his left wrist. Blake was taken to hopsital but coach Randy Carlyle said the injury was severe. Consider Blake to be out indefinitely at this stage and it could be most of the season if there were tendons involved.
