Jaromir Jagr potted two power-play goals and also registered an assist in Philadelphia's 5-3 preseason win over New York Monday night. Jagr has been on fire this preseason and deserves a little bump in the fantasy rankings based on his performance in the exhibition games. Claude Giroux and Danny Briere each had three assists for the Flyers in the win. Brian Boyle had a goal and an assist for the Rangers in a game that had a regular-season feel tonight in Philadelphia.

Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist to help Philadelphia beat Detroit 3-1 in preseason play. Jagr looked in mid-season form as he potted his first goal and first assist of the preseason. James van Riemsdyk and Matt Read both scored for the Flyers as well. Fabian Brunnstrom scored the lone goal for Detroit. Sergei Bobrovsky got the win for Philly as he made 22 saves on 23 shots.

Jaromir Jagr will play in Friday's preseason game against Detroit. It's true that you can't read too much into the raw statistics from preseason games, but we're still interested to see how Jagr does. Jagr's return to the NHL is one of the most interesting storylines on a team that has plenty of intriguing players. We don't expect him to have much, if any, fantasy value in 2011-12, but he is worth keeping a close eye on.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren thinks Jaromir Jagr could produce about 45 to 65 points this season. That doesn't strike us as too unrealistic of a target area, though we think Jagr will end up closer to 45 than 65. For his part, Jagr isn't making any predictions. "I didn't come here for the money just to impress myself," Jagr said. "I'm not saying I am going to be dominating. I'm not saying I'm going to be good. I can promise you I will do all the right things to play." We have our doubts about his ability to perform at a level that would make him worth owning in standard fantasy leagues, but we are confident that - one way or another - he will be a very interesting story this season.

As expected, the Flyers opened training camp with a familiar face on the top line. The Flyers are tested out James van Riemsdyk, Claude Giroux, and Jaromir Jagr on the top line. For now it seems like a line that could really work if given the chance. This deserves monitoring because Jagr's fantasy value goes up if he can stick alongside the two young phenoms.

Jaromir Jagr believes he can help Philadelphia's listless power play next season. He sees the makeup of the team as a strong fit for him. "I like to play power play on the right side, and I think because they're righthanded, they like to play on the other side," said Jagr referring to Philadelphia centers Daniel Briere and Claude Giroux. "I think it would be a problem if I would play in Pittsburgh with [Sidney] Crosby or [Evgeni] Malkin, lefthanded, and have to play on the other side, when I've played all my life on the right side. I don't think I would be able to play there. Or if I go to Detroit, with [Pavel] Datsyuk and [Henrik] Zetterberg, they're lefthanded and they play on the boards where I used to play at." Philadelphia finished 19th with the man advantage in 2010-11 and it sputtered in the postseason as well.

Jaromir Jagr has apologized to people who thought he would return to the NHL at a league minimum salary. Jagr made a comment in 2009 that he would be willing to play for the minimum for the opportunity to join the team co-owned by his former teammate, Mario Lemieux, but he now claims he was misunderstood. "If I hurt somebody, I apologize," Jagr said Saturday. "I didn't mean it, but this is my life and I want to make the choice. It's tough for me to explain in English; it would be a lot easier for me to explain in Czech because I didn't speak a lot of English in the last three years. I could even explain in Russian better." It will be interesting to see if Penguins fans will hold any ill will towards the former star.

Jaromir Jagr said there were teams that offered him more money than Philadelphia. With how much prices have inflated in this year's market, we have no trouble buying into Jagr's claim. That being said, we still think he isn't worth the $3.3 million that the Flyers are paying him. At the age of 39 and after three years in the KHL, we don't expect Jagr to have much fantasy value.
