Staal will join OHA Edmonton as a member of the coaching staff -- bringing an end to his playing career.
EDGE Analysis
Staal last laced up his skates during the 2016-17 campaign when he was playing for the Edinburgh Capitals of the EIHL. Selected by the Coyotes in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft, the 27-year-old never suited up for Arizona, but did log a pair of NHL contest for the Hurricanes alongside brothers Eric and Jordan.

Staal has been assigned to Charlotte of the AHL, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports. Time is ticking away for the youngest Staal brother, who is now 24 years old and has been playing in the AHL for the better part of the last five seasons. Trouble is, despite the fact he was a decent scorer in junior, averaging 50 points a season for the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL, he has just 25 combined points in 164 AHL games since then. He should not be on anyone's fantasy radar right now.

The Hurricanes started the game with all three of their Staal brothers on the same line Thursday night against the Rangers. Pretty cool. They were the fourth trio of brothers in NHL to play in the same game. Jared Staal was making his NHL debut, and he played 12:16 with a shot on goal. "It was even more than I thought it would be, a lot of fun," Jared Staal said. "I didn't feel that out of place. I had a blast."
