McGinn (back) was placed on injured reserve Friday. McGinn was first considered day-to-day, but now his injury appears to be more serious than initially thought. He will be required to sit until Saturday, meaning he could return before the next game, but the team's recall of three forwards likely indicates that is an unrealistic timetable. His next opportunity to return would be Tuesday against the Coyotes.

McGinn (back) was a scratch for the Avalanche on Thursday. McGinn was sidelined from practice the last few days because of the back injury, and now it will cause him to miss Thursday's contest as well. His next opportunity to return will come Saturday against the Hurricanes.

McGinn is questionable for Thursday's game against the Capitals due to a back injury, The Denver Post reports. The nature of McGinn's injury is uncertain, but it prevented him from taking part in practice the last two days. Expect the Avalanche to provide an update on McGinn's status sometime Thursday.

McGinn scored the team's lone goal, on the power play, in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Jets on Sunday. McGinn has been logging time on the team's second power play line, resulting in his second goal in as many games. He recorded career highs in goals and assists last year with 19 of each, and could put up similar numbers this season.

McGinn scored Colorado's first goal of the season in Sunday's win over the Bruins. It was a nice play from the 26-year-old, who took a pass from a pinching Tyson Barrie before firing a shot past Bruins' goaltender Niklas Svedberg. If McGinn continues to skate on the top line with Jarmoe Iginla and Matt Duchene, there is no reason he can't duplicate the success of the 19-goal season he put up in 2013-14.

McGinn (back) appears set to play in Thursday's regular-season opener against the Wild, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports. McGinn was slow to recover from offseason back surgery in training camp, but has been able to practice fully for about the last week to eliminate most of the concern regarding his health. He'll serve as the Avs' third-line left wing Thursday night, joining Daniel Briere and Max Talbot.

McGinn returned to practice on Wednesday and should be ready for Colorado's season opener next week, Adrian Dater of The Denver Post reports. McGinn scored career highs in goals, assists, and points last season and only missed three games. When he returns, he could be paired on the second line or third line, depending on where head coach Patrick Roy wants to place him. Look for McGinn to challenge his career high stats of last season and be a solid fantasy depth option in most leagues.

McGinn (back) skated at practice Monday, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports. McGinn is still recovering from offseason back surgery, but it's a good sign that he's back on the ice. He still has yet to be cleared for contact, but at this point, it looks like McGinn will be available right around the start of the regular season.

McGinn isn't completely recovered from offseason back surgery and could be limited in training camp, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports. McGinn re-upped with the Avs on a two-year deal in June, and it's likely the team knew about the procedure before bringing him back in the fold. The Avs haven't issued a rough timetable for when to expect McGinn back at full strength, but his injury puts the club in somewhat of a rough spot with several of their other forwards banged up in the early going. If McGinn recovers well as camp progresses, he'll likely occupy a spot on the third line entering the 2014-15 campaign.

Jamie McGinn has signed a two-year extension with the Avalanche. Financial terms weren't disclosed. He had a salary cap hit of $1.75 million in his last two-year contract. "Jamie is coming off a very good season and played an important role for our team," said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. "We're excited to have him under contract for another two years." During the 2013-14 campaign, he generated 19 goals and 19 assists.
