Lauko (undisclosed) agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with Boston on Friday.

After notching two goals in a pair of preseason contests, team brass had seen enough to ink Lauko to an entry-level deal. The center will be reassigned to his junior club (QMJHL Rouyn-Noranda) for the 2018-19 campaign, but could get a look in the final few contests of the season.

According to assistant coach Joe Sacco, Lauko was "banged up" during a drill in practice, Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Lauko wasn't going to make the Bruins roster coming out of camp, however, an extended absence could see him sent back overseas rather than playing with AHL Providence where he would be eligible to be called up.

Lauko scored a goal in Sunday's 2-1 preseason victory over Washington.

The 18-year-old rookie notched a goal in his first lick of NHL action. While he is a longshot to earn a roster spot this year, it was certainly encouraging to see the young Prague native produce in his first game at the NHL level.

Lauko was drafted 77th overall by the Bruins at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

A versatile forward that has shown an ability to play a variety of roles, Lauko brings elite speed and dogged determination to the table, but little else. Playing virtually the entirety of this past season as a 17-year-old for Chomutov in his native Czech Republic, Lauka received minimal playing time on a veteran-laden club. Lauko will have a chance to develop into an asset for Boston because of how well he moves, but he has a basic and limited offensive arsenal. A player with Lauko's speed should be able to accomplish more than he has shown. The Bruins will allow him to marinate in Europe for several more years.
