The Lightning's AHL affiliate is ready to defend its Calder Cup title. Now with Syracuse instead of Norfolk, Va., the Crunch are in even better shape this season with talents like Brett Connolly and J.T. Brown -- two guys who would've likely been NHL-bound -- joining the fray. The AHL squad finished last season with 28 straight wins. "With all these players that might otherwise have been in the NHL, the level of the play is going to be the highest it's ever been at the AHL level, and some teams are really going to benefit, at least for the time being, by having these players on their teams,'' Syracuse GM Julien BriseBois said. ... "I think the level of competition in every regard this year at the AHL level is off the charts.''

First of all Syracuse didn't win the cup last year so Syracuse has nothing to defend. Second it is Norfolk tat has to defend its Calder Cup. Anyone who wants to argue with me on this the next time you go to Syracuse look at their trophy case and the banners. You won't find one that says anything about a Calder Cup in 11-12 or one that says 28 game win streak (you won't even see it in the records books) and you won't see any of the 4 other trophy's the Norfolk Admirals won last year there either. If you go to Norfolk and look in their trophy case you will find the Calder cup along with 5 new banners hanging from the rafters. Best points, win streak, Division Champs, Con. Champs, Calder Cup winner. You won't find those in Syracuse. There was no title one in Syracuse last year. Did they even make it to the playoffs?
