Pakarinen has signed with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL, Finnish news site Iltalehti reports.

Pakarinen, who recently completed his fourth season in the Oilers organization, will look to revitalize his career in what is widely considered to be the second-best league in the world. Once a 20-goal scorer in his native Finland and a reliable offensive player at the AHL level, Pakarinen logged just two goals and a single assist in 40 contests with Edmonton in 2017-18.

Pakarinen scored two goals and an assist in 40 games in 2017-18, while contributing 50 shots on goal and 72 hits as well.

EDGE Analysis

Although Pakarinen bounced around from the AHL to NHL, he was only scratched for 17 games when he was with Edmonton, but did just average 10:11 of ice time skating mainly on the bottom six. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old has seen his role reduce since he logged 63 games at the professional level in 2015-16, but he was victimized by a low shooting percentage of four, which is unfortunate as his wrist shot is one of the strengths of his game. Pakarinen will be a free agent entering next season, and it's unclear if Edmonton has plans to retain him for the fifth straight year.

Pakarinen found the back of the net in Sunday's 6-5 overtime victory over Anaheim.

EDGE Analysis

The offensive drive generated points for two of Edmonton's rare contributors -- Pakarinen scored his first goal since Feb. 5 and Milan Lucic assisted (his first point since Jan. 20). The Finnish winger has missed more games (healthy scratch) than he has played in the last two weeks and is best left on the wire for now.

Pakarinen lit the lamp in Monday's 6-2 victory over the Lightning.

EDGE Analysis

The goal was Pakarinen's first of the season, he now has two points in 21 games in 2017-18. The FInnish winger's small role (10:15 TOI/G) will continue to keep his offensive opportunities minimal. For now, owners can find more involved options on the wire.

Pakarinen was recalled from AHL Bakersfield on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

The Oilers waived Pakarinen on Dec. 1, but he remained property of the franchise having passed through waivers and moving to the Condors. Fantasy owners generally shouldn't concern themselves with a midseason minor-league call-up, and Pakarinen isn't an exception to the rule as the owner of just 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) through 112 games.

Pakarinen was placed on waivers for the purpose of reassignment to AHL Bakersfield on Friday.

EDGE Analysis

There's an outside chance that Pakarinen could get scooped off waivers by another team. After all, the Oilers claimed Australian forward Nathan Walker -- via the Capitals -- off waivers preceding Pakarinen's own transaction. The Finn has only averaged 10:21 of ice time with Edmonton, and it seems that a change of scenery would do him well -- even if it's down in the minors.

Pakarinen assisted on Edmonton's only goal in Sunday's loss to Washington.

EDGE Analysis

That was Pakarinen's first point of the season. Through 14 games he has one assist, a minus-1 rating, and just 13 shots. His fantasy value is limited when he's in the lineup, and there's no guarantee he's going to be in the lineup regularly.

Pakarinen logged 12:54 of ice time while recording three hits in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

Pakarinen has yet to record a point so far in 2017-18, despite playing in 13 of Edmonton's 16 games. The Finn has had a hard time notching consistent ice time also as he's only averaged 10:06 per game, but has been skating on the third line as of late with Ryan Strome, which should result in an increase of offensive opportunities for the 25-year-old.

Pakarinen will draw into Saturday's lineup against the Canucks on the fourth line with Jujhar Khaira and Mark Letestu, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

EDGE Analysis

Edmonton wants to give Pakarinen a closer look after he slugged through a rough 2016-17 campaign, and was limited to 19 total games with a leg injury largely to blame. Still, don't expect a whole lot of ice time since he'll be positioned on the bottom line.

The 2016-17 campaign could have been a big step forward for Pakarinen in his third season in the league, but instead he was restricted to just 14 regular-season games and a single playoff game due to a leg injury he sustained in the preseason. The Oilers apparently see enough in him to give him another year with the team, so he'll look to prove them right, assuming he can stay healthy for at least most of the campaign.
