Ian White is expected to spend his third straight game in the press box on Sunday. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock doesn't want to alter his lineup after Thursday's 2-1 victory over Thursday. White was surprised when he was initially made a healthy scratch, but he will eventually get another shot with Detroit.

Ian White will be a healthy scratch Wednesday night. "I am taken aback," White said after learning about the decision. "I didn't see this coming. I feel like I'm playing the same way I've played the last seven years. I work as hard as I can every night. Maybe I don't have the stats this year that I've had in the past, but I feel I'm working hard and playing the same way I always have." The Wings will welcome back Brendan Smith and Kyle Quincey to the lineup against Los Angeles, but their return comes at the expense of White and Kent Huskins. White has posted two points, 16 shots and a minus-2 rating in 14 games this season.

Ian White was back in the Detroit lineup Tuesday after missing five games with a leg laceration. White's return after only two weeks on the sidelines places him at the short end of his initial timeframe of 2-3 weeks. He played 18:49 in the game and didn't record a shot on goal. Feel free to activate him if you normally would.

Ian White (leg laceration) is hoping to return to action this week and perhaps as early as Tuesday. White suffered the injury on Jan. 22 and the worry still is that the laceration will re-open if his knee bends too much. The Red Wings are having plenty of trouble this season with most stemming from the retirement of Nicklas Lidstrom, so they could really use White back on the point. He is worth putting in your lineup as soon as he is healthy enough to play.

Ian White (leg) is hoping to return to Detroit's lineup on Tuesday. White will still miss his fourth straight game on Friday and fifth consecutive contest on Saturday. He had seven goals and 32 points in 77 games last season.

Ian White (lacerations on leg) is expected to start skating later this week. GM Ken Holland said that White is still at least a week away from returning to action so do not activate him just yet. He was injured a week ago and needed surgery to repair the lacerations above his knee and the thought was he would miss two-three weeks. White said it would be closer to two and that would bring him back later next week.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ian White (leg) is both optimistic and concerned about his needed time out of his team's lineup. White had surgery on lacerations above his knee Tuesday. The club suggested he would be out two to three weeks. "Unfortunately two or three weeks in this season is quite a few games," White said. "It feels pretty good. I see it being closer to two weeks than three."

Ian White will be out of action for two to three weeks after suffering a severe cut just above his knee on Tuesday. He had surgery on the laceration Wednesday morning. "Tendons are all fine. Some muscle had to be reattached," GM Ken Holland said. "He's out two to three weeks." White has one goal and five shots from Detroit's blueline this campaign.

Ian White suffered a deep leg cut during Tuesday's contest against the Dallas Stars. It's not clear how long White will be sidelined for, but the gash did go through the muscle. This is the latest setback for a team that's already missing defensemen Jonathan Ericsson and Carlo Colaiacovo.

As of this moment, Ian White appears to be the frontrunner for a role alongside Niklas Kronwall on the Red Wings top power play unit. The retirement of Nicklas Lidstrom has created a void that presents itself as an opportunity for a number of Detroit blue liners, including Brendan Smith and Carlo Colaiacovo. It seems White will get the first crack at minutes with the top unit, however the youngster Smith will likely grow into the role as he gains more NHL experience.
