The health of Gilbert Brule and salary cap implications has temporarily halted the trade between the Oilers and Kings for Ryan Smyth. There are big issues with the salary cap as Los Angeles GM Dean Lombardi is not so anxious to make this deal with the present parameters. "The way this deal was proposed we were very clear in what we could take back," Lombardi said. "It makes no sense as it stands now for me to lose a player like Ryan and to also lose the flexibility I need to replace him in the lineup. That's why this has broken down. I'm paying a penalty for something that's not my fault, losing Smytty (over family concerns). I'm not going to pay for another penalty." Stay tuned as there is not a deal in place at this time.
