Gabriel Bourque registered his second assist of the season on Thursday. Bourque missed Nashville's first two games due to a lower body injury. He had seven goals and 12 points in 15 AHL contests during the lockout.

Gabriel Bourque (lower body) played Saturday for Milwaukee of the AHL. Bourque was injured in the AHL where he played only 13 games and had been out of action since December 15. He was held pointless and now must work his way back into the Predators lineup as he had 19 points in 43 games last season. "We'll see where he is and see where his game is," Predators coach Barry Trotz said. "It doesn't have to be him. Everyone is assuming it's him, but it doesn't have to be him. It's who's playing the best." Just an FYI.

If the NHL and NHLPA can work out a new CBA soon then the Nashville Predators may start an abbreviated season without the services of Gabriel Bourque. He's expected to miss "another couple of weeks," according to AHL Milwaukee coach Dean Evason. Bourque has been dealing with a lower-body injury for most of the year and has played in only 13 of Admirals' 31 games this season. He hasn't suited up since Dec. 15, but Evason doesn't think Bourque will miss much time if the season gets up and running shortly.

He managed to work his way into the Nashville Predators' roster in 2011-12, but the lockout has forced him back into the minors.

Bourque has only played in seven games this season due to a lower-body injury and a suspension but he has registered five points and seems to be rounding into form. That said, Bourque's ceiling at the NHL level is as a third-liner.

The silver lining is that Bourque has a solid four points in four games. If he can manage to stay healthy and out of trouble, then the plan is for Bourque to develop his scoring ability as long as the lockout is forcing him to stay in the minors.

Gabriel Bourque has agreed to a two-year/$1.55 contract extension with the Nashville Predators. Bourque is set to earn $725,000 in 2013-14 and $825,000 in the final campaign of the deal. He had seven goals and 19 points in 43 games with Nashville last season.

The Predators may have to look to the trade market to address their offseason needs. General manager David Poile has interest in signing Shane Doan, but the free agent doesn't seem likely to end up in Nashville if he doesnt stay with the Coyotes. With him being the biggest prize left, that means the Preds most likely will shift their focus to the trade route for upgrades. If they don't make anymore moves, though, younger players like Craig Smith (36 points last season), Gabriel Bourque (19 points, not including five in the postseason) and Colin Wilson (35 points) will get bigger roles next season. Nashville also has youth on the backend of its blueline, so it could look to swing a deal for a depth defenseman to compete with Jonathon Blum and Ryan Ellis.

Gabriel Bourque practiced with Alexander Radulov and David Legwand on Thursday. Bourque has been great in the early going with three goals in four games to lead Nashville. Andrei Kostitsyn, Nick Spaling and Patric Hornqvist and Martin Erat, Mike Fisher and Sergei Kostitsyn were other line combinations in practice Thursday.
