Evgeni Nabokov returned as the starting goalie with the New York Islanders Wednesday night but wound up on the losing side of a 2-1 score against the New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium. Making his first start since Jan. 6, though he did get some playing time in his return from his leg injury on Monday, Nabokov steered aside 32 of the Rangers' 34 shots and looked good. Obviously, he could have used some more offense from his mates. Nabokov's GAA is now 2.82 and his save percentage is .907.

As expected, Evgeni Nabokov will play between the pipes in Yankee Stadium Wednesday night. It will be Nabokov's first start since Jan. 6, although he did get some playing time in his return from a leg injury on Monday. He has a 2.85 GAA and .905 save percentage in 25 games this season.

Nabokov is on the injured reserve list and that was made retroactive to Jan. 6 so he is eligible to come off the list at any time but is not ready to return so he will remain on it. Look for Nabokov to take another week to get ready barring any setbacks. He is 9-8-5 this season with a 2.88 GAA and a .905 save percentage. Kevin Poulin is tending the net in Nabokov's absence.

Evgeni Nabokov's undisclosed injury isn't as bad as initially feared. The ailment reportedly might be a quad strain, but that hasn't been confirmed. He's likely to be sidelined for two weeks, but that might be the limit of what he misses with this ailment.
