He performs best in the plus/minus and blocks categories, which is where he was solid again Thursday, especially in blocks. Johnson has 28 blocks in the last 16 games, including 16 in the past five contests. This season, he has one goal and nine points with a plus-6 rating and 89 blocks in 45 games this season.

The veteran defenseman has zero points in the last seven games, but he does possess a plus-4 rating during that stretch after Thursday. That's about the only positives from Johnson, though, as he has largely struggled to score all season. He has just one goal and nine points with a 1.6 shooting percentage. Johnson also has 67 blocks, 60 hits and a plus-3 rating in 36 games.

Johnson posted a plus-2 rating, one shot on goal, four blocks and three hits in a 5-3 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

The 31-year-old has tallied three of his nine points this season but has been a disappointment in the scoring departments overall. The good news, though, is Johnson has remained relevant with his contributions in other areas, as he again showcased Tuesday. Johnson is averaging close to two blocks and hits per game, making him a valuable commodity in both categories. If his 1.8 shooting percentage manages to come back to the mean during the second half, Johnson could be a decent depth piece in deeper leagues down the stretch. He has one goal and nine points with a plus-4 rating, 57 shots, 67 blocks and 59 hits in 33 games this season.

Johnson has one goal and seven points with a minus-1 rating and eight PIM in 28 games this season.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran defenseman has experienced a couple different problems this season. A big reason why he's posted less production than expected is because of a lower-body injury that sidelined him for nearly a month. Johnson has more hits and blocks per game this season than 2018-19. However, he is averaging fewer shots per game and his shooting percentage is more than half of what it was last season. Since returning from his injury, Johnson has one assist with 10 shots on net, two PIM, 14 hits and 12 blocks in five games.

EDGE Analysis

Johnson skated 20:47 in the contest, and he was fairly active at both ends of the rink. With just six points in 24 appearances this season, Johnson isn't likely to help fantasy owners much. He has 53 blocks, 42 shots on goal and 37 hits this season, so his non-scoring production could be worth a look in deep formats.

Johnson (lower body) was activated off injured reserve and will suit up in Thursday's home tilt with Carolina, Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic reports.

Johnson had missed the last 10 games due to the lower-body issue, but will be back in action on the third defensive pair. The 31-year-old's return likely won't make a huge difference in the fantasy realm, as Johnson has recorded just six points through 23 games this campaign.
