Erik Gustafsson was placed on Philadelphia's long-term injured list on Monday. The Flyers needed the cap space to bring up two defensemen from the minors for Monday's game. Gustafsson is expected to be sidelined for six weeks due to wrist surgery anyway.

Erik Gustafsson will be out for six weeks after undergoing wrist surgery on Thursday. So much for his injury not being serious. He had missed the Flyers' last three games with the ailment before getting a procedure done. Andreas Lilja will remain with Philadelphia as their sixth defenseman in Gustafsson's absence.

Erik Gustafsson missed Sunday's game and won't join the Philadelphia Flyers for their game against the Carolina Hurricanes, either. Gustafsson only has an assist in five games with the Flyers, so he's probably not all that relevant to fantasy owners, but just in case, note that he isn't likely to be in the lineup on Nov. 14.

Erik Gustafsson is making a strong case for himself to remain in Philadelphia's top six defense group even when Chris Pronger returns from an eye injury. His presence on the roster made the decision easier to send Matt Walker to the minors and he has played more than extra defender Andreas Lilja since being recalled from Adirondack. "He's played really well since he's been called up," said coach Peter Laviolette. "He moves the puck so well. I think over the summer he picked up a step in speed, picked up some added muscle, and he looks really strong on the ice." Gustafsson saw 23 minutes of ice time against Columbus on Saturday and finished the game with a superb plus-6 rating.

Philadelphia has recalled defenseman Erik Gustafsson. He contributed four assists in eight games for the Phantoms prior to being brought up. The Flyers need some depth on the blueline with Chris Pronger out with an eye injury.
