Although Erik Gustafsson has returned from a foot injury and is now playing in the minors, he's still not up to speed, according to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. Holmgren would like to see Gustafsson spend some more time in the AHL to shake off the rust. After that though, it wouldn't be surprising to see Philadelphia promote Gustafsson.

Erik Gustafsson might not have to wait much longer before being summoned from the minors. Gustafsson didn't make the Flyers' opening game roster because of a foot injury. Now he's healthy and has gotten a few more games under his belt in the minors. He has 15 points and 27 penalty minutes in 28 AHL contests this season. He also was picked for the AHL All-Star Game, but wasn't able to participate because he was still injured at the time.

Erik Gustafsson has a bone bruise in his right foot, so he might not be available for the Flyers when the regular season begins. With Andrej Meszaros' status in doubt for the start of the campaign and Marc-Andre Bourdon out with a concussion, Gustafsson could have had an easier time at cracking Philadelphia's lineup. However, now he might not get that chance out of training camp. In 24 games with AHL Adirondack, he has accounted for 14 points and 27 penalty minutes.

Erik Gustafsson had X-rays on his foot this week and they came back negative. The defenseman has been playing with AHL Adirondack due the NHL lockout. He has produced three goals and 14 points from the back end this campaign and currently sits third on the team in scoring behind Flyers forwards Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier.

Erik Gustafsson lit the lamp for Adirondack, but it fell to Albany 3-2 on Saturday night. The blueliner got into only 30 games with the Flyers last year after dealing with a wrist injury (then surgery) early in the year, he and managed five points. He already has 11 points in 20 games in the AHL now. Sean Couturier also had a helper for his 17th point of the season.

Erik Gustafsson will get a great opportunity to land a roster spot with the Flyers this season. Philadelphia will enter the year without Chris Pronger, Andrej Meszaros, and Andreas Lilja because of injuries and Matt Carle left for Tampa Bay via free agency. That will give Gustafsson, who played well at the NHL level in 30 games last season, a chance to stick around on a more permanent basis. He got sidetracked by a wrist injury that required surgery, but he's healthy now and Philadelphia GM Paul Holmgren is confident in the young defenseman's potential.

Erik Gustafsson played a superb hockey game in his second career playoff appearance Sunday. He netted his first postseason goal and blocked a team-high seven shots in Philadelphia's 5-1 triumph over Pittsburgh. Gustafsson skated for 22:09 of ice time, while playing against star players Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, and he finished with a plus-3 rating. He stepped into the lineup when Nicklas Grossmann went down, with a suspected concussion, and has not looked out of place despite being a rookie.

Erik Gustafsson will make his playoff debut on Friday. Gustafsson will help fill the void left by Nicklas Grossmann (concussion). Gustafsson will probably play alongside blueliner Matt Carle.
