With just a goal and four points through his past 12 games, it's been a disappointing run for Staal. However, it would have been foolish to expect the 32-year-old center to maintain his early-season offensive binge all season. Even with his scoring dip, Staal has 16 goals and 43 points through 53 games and is on pace for his best offensive showing since the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign. Minnesota has seven consecutive home games on tap, so expect Staal to find his scoring touch again sooner than later.

Fantasy owners who bought Staal cheaply on draft day after easily the worst season of his career have been rewarded with a stunning return to stardom in his new digs -- he's operating at nearly a point-per-game pace and is already just one short of last season's 39-point total. He's also now plus-14 on the year, putting the veteran pivot on track to set a new career high in that category. Yes, life in Minnesota has been pretty grand for Staal, and there's no reason to think that'll change in the season's second half.

Staal registered a power-play goal late in the second before tacking on a pair of points in a wild third period that saw four goals by Minnesota and two by San Jose. He had just had a nine-game point streak snapped in his previous appearance, but still has a tremendous seven goals and eight assists in his past 11 games.

Staal earned an assist during Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Predators.

The streak is still alive, as Staal has now reached the scoresheet for eight games in a row. The 32-year-old has stayed consistently hot with the team -- the Wild have won 11 straight -- and sports six goals and seven helpers (three on the power play) in December alone.

Staal is on a tear, notching points in seven straight including nine of the last 10 wins for the Wild. The 32-year-old has been the anchor to the team's exceptional streak, finding twine six times and dishing the puck six more. As an added bonus, the 2003 No. 2 pick has spent eight minutes in the penalty box after compiling just six PIM in October and November combined.

Staal provided a power-play assist and an empty-net goal Saturday afternoon, helping his team secure a 4-1 home win over the Coyotes.

EDGE Analysis

Staal's in vintage form in his debut season with the Wild. He leads the team with 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) and has a plus-13 rating to boot. Plus, as one would expect from a four-time NHL All-Star, he's been a factor on the man advantage with half of his goals taking place in that special teams scenario. There should be room for ol' reliable on just about any fantasy squad.

After last year's brutal 39-point effort, expectations were low for Staal after he signed with Minnesota, but he's pleasantly surprised with 22 points in 29 contests. Staal is in the midst of a bounce-back season with five goals and nine assists through 19 games to start the campaign. He entered Wednesday's game averaging 19:17 of ice time per night with 2:51 on the power play and checks out as a low-end center option in most fantasy settings.

EDGE Analysis

Staal is just shy of averaging a point per game this season while logging minutes on both the power play and the penalty kill. After a difficult end to the 2015-16 campaign with the Rangers, the center appears to be right at home in Minnesota and is thriving under coach Bruce Boudreau.
