Comrie inked a one-year, two-way contract with Winnipeg on Thursday.

While Connor Hellebuyck may be the long-term starter for Winnipeg, Comrie is a solid prospect the organization won't want to let walk in free agency. The netminder posted an 18-13-3 record with a 2.58 GAA in 34 appearances for AHL Manitoba last season and was called into action by the Jets on three occasions. Selected by the team in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft, the 22-year-old will likely become a trade piece at some point down the road.

Comrie was sent back to AHL Manitoba on Friday, Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun reports.

The Jets carried three goaltenders down the stretch, allowing Comrie to get a few looks in net while Ryan Miller (knee) was sidelined. Despite a decent showing with Manitoba, Comrie was unable to parlay that into success at the NHL level. In three appearances, he posted a 4.00 GAA and just an .872 save percentage. He will now return to the AHL ranks to fine tune his skills.

Comrie allowed six goals on 42 shots during Thursday's 6-2 loss to Chicago.

EDGE Analysis

This was a nightmare showing for fantasy owners who took a chance on Comrie. However, with just three previous starts in his career, a disastrous outing was definitely in the range of outcomes. Winnipeg has a road game against Toronto on deck, and then a back-to-back road set against Ottawa and Montreal, so there is potential for Comrie to receive another start before the season ends.

Comrie will be between the pipes against the Blackhawks on Thursday, Mike Sawatzky of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.

Comrie appears to have earned a few more days in the backup role for the Jets, as Michael Hutchinson was shipped off to AHL Manitoba. The 22-year-old Comrie will be making his fourth career NHL start, having logged a 2-1-0 record in his prior outings. Once Steve Mason (knee) gets the all-clear, Comrie will likely find himself join Hutchinson in the minors.

Comrie made 16 saves in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Kings.

Comrie's club made life easy for him, as Winnipeg held a 38-17 edge in shots and would have won by a comfortable margin if not for a wonderful performance from Los Angeles backup Jack Campbell in net. With an incredible team around him, Comrie should make for a solid streamer any time he gets the call over starter Connor Hellebuyck down the stretch.
