He might top his career high of eight points from last year, but he's far from reliable enough to help in fantasy.

Samberg was scoreless in Monday's 3-2 overtime loss against the Rangers.

Samberg didn't get onto the scoresheet, but he was able to take two shots while also recording a pair of blocked shots in his 14:57 of ice time. The 24-year-old defenseman has just a single assist and plus-4 rating in eight games since opening the season with an assist in Calgary on Oct. 11. The third-pairing defenseman's fantasy ceiling is remains significantly limited.

Samberg signed a two-year, $2.8 million contract with the Jets on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

Samberg emerged as a solid third-pairing defenseman last season, racking up eight points, a plus-10 rating, 91 hits and 93 blocked shots in 63 games. The 24-year-old is now locked in at a reasonable cap hit and will likely fill a similar role for the next two seasons. He'll be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights at the end of this contract.

Samberg was deemed a healthy scratch against Arizona on Tuesday by coach Rick Bowness and wasn't dealing with a leg injury, Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun reports.

EDGE Analysis

Considering Samberg is pointless in 21 straight contests and has been frequently left out of the lineup, it certainly doesn't come as a surprise that he was once again a healthy scratch Tuesday. If the blueliner does break into the lineup, it almost certainly will come at the expense of Kyle Capobianco.
