It's unclear if this is an evolution in his play or just a brief stretch of success that can happen for a top-four defender. Samberg has matched his career high of 18 points, doing so with six goals and 12 helpers, as well as 75 shots on net, 93 blocked shots, 45 hits and a plus-30 rating, over 48 contests in 2024-25.

Samberg scored a goal on five shots, added an assist, blocked two shots and went plus-3 in Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over the Kraken.

Samberg set up Cole Perfetti to get the Jets on the board late in the first period. In overtime, Perfetti returned the favor to allow Samberg to score the game-winning goal, the second game-winner of his career. The 26-year-old Samberg has four points over his last five outings and continues to look sharp defensively in a second-pairing role. He's at six goals, 11 assists, 73 shots on net, 88 blocked shots, 44 hits and a plus-32 rating over 46 appearances this season. He has yet to hit the 20-point mark in any season of his career, but he could do so in 2024-25 if he keeps his recent momentum up over the next few weeks.

The 26-year-old has a decent five points, along with a plus-10 rating and 30 blocked shots, over his last 13 contests as he continues to handle top-four minutes in a shutdown role. He's up to five goals, 10 helpers, 68 shots on net, 86 blocks, 43 hits and a plus-29 rating through 45 appearances.

Samberg had been held off the scoresheet in the previous six games and missed one contest to attend to a personal matter. The 26-year-old defenseman is up to 14 points, a plus-26 rating, 60 shots on net, 77 blocked shots, 39 hits and 22 PIM through 42 appearances. He's not overly physical, but he's an effective shutdown defenseman and should be able to stay in the lineup even after the Jets acquired Luke Schenn at the trade deadline.

Samberg (personal) rejoined the Jets ahead of a clash with the Flyers on Thursday, Mitchell Clinton of the Jets' official site reports.

EDGE Analysis

Samberg was unavailable for the first game of Winnipeg's four-game road trip due to family reasons but should now be in contention to reclaim a spot in the lineup for Thursday's tilt. The defenseman is currently stuck in a five-game pointless streak during which he generated seven shots, 10 blocks and six hits. If he does play Thursday, it will likely come at the expense of Haydn Fleury.

Samberg (personal) will not be available for Tuesday's road meeting with the Islanders, according to John Lu of TSN.

Head coach Scott Arniel noted that Samberg will rejoin the team ahead of Thursday's game against the Flyers. Haydn Fleury will replace Samberg in the lineup Tuesday and skate on the third pairing next to Colin Miller.
