DeMelo has been a revelation for the Sharks in camp and is now the "odds-on favorite" to be paired with Brendon Dillon on opening night, according to CSN's Kevin Kurz.
EDGE Analysis
Even if DeMelo doesn't get the job, this situation means that you can't feel very comfortable rostering Matt Tennyson or Mirco Mueller right now. If DeMelo gets the job, both of them are going to be limited with Tennyson likely to be a healthy scratch and Mueller likely to return to the AHL. If it's not DeMelo, it should still worry owners that DeMelo played so well. It may mean a short leash for whoever does get the job.

DeMelo was one of eight players sent to the AHL by the Sharks on Monday. DeMelo wasn't expected to make the team out of camp, so his reassignment shouldn't come as a surprise. He's unlikely to find his way into the San Jose roster this season.
