ROMIE HITS THE POST: BISHOP TAKES KNIGHT: CHECK primepucks.com Thu 10/17/13 3:19 PM

At the beginning of this season, many people probably believed that Anders Lindback would be the starting goaltender for Tampa Bay. General Manager Steve Yzerman acquired Lindback from Nashville during the lockout, because he was tired of watching goalies like Dwayne Roloson and Mathieu Garon struggle in net.  Lindback had been the backup to Pekka Rinne for two years with the Predators.  His numbers were okay, but hardly outstanding. Last season he shared time with Garon, starting in 24 games and going 10-10-1 with a 2.90 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.  Nothing to get excited about.  So at the trade deadline, Yzerman brought in Ben Bishop from Ottawa.  Here was another case of a backup, Bishop, having decent numbers spelling Craig Anderson for the Senators.  Bishop posted a .922 save percentage in 13 games in 2012-2013 while in Ottawa.  Bishop played in nine games last season for the Lightning, and his numbers were decent at 3-4-1 a 2.99 save percentage and a .917 save percentage.  But Lindback actually started the opening game of this season, a loss to Boston.   Bishop is very big, he is the tallest goaltender in the NHL at 6'7" and he weighs 215 pounds. They say you can't teach size, and at that size he covers a lot of the net. He is also very agile and positions himself well. After the opening day loss, Bishop has played in 4 of the next 5 games, and his record stands at 4-0 with an amazing 1.71 goals against average and .939 save percentage.  If he keeps this up, he will become a top goaltender in the league. Tampa is now 4-2 on the year, and each game that they lost, Lindback was in goal.  Most poolies probably think of Tampa as a mediocre team, based on how much they have struggled the past few years, especially in net.  But the numbers tell a different story this year.  They are 4-2 and are tied for third in the league with Pittsburgh in goals scoring, and are 6th in the league in goals allowed. Yzerman is slowly changing this team around.  A big part of this is the play of Bishop in goal.  He is now definitely the starter on an improving team.  Get him into your lineup and keep him there.  He should have a solid year.    Stick saves: Marc-Andre Fleury has put his playoff woes behind him, and he has come out of the gate this season looking strong. He is 5-0 with a 1.80 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.  He even has a shutout, which is somewhat rare for him.  His is looking very confident in net, and with all the...
