MacIntyre takes his talents overseas, having been released by the Capitals after earning a professional tryout agreement with the club. There simply was no room for him on the roster next to reigning Vezina Trophy winner Braden Holtby and young backup Philipp Grubauer, who has shown steady improvement since entering the NHL four years ago.

MacIntyre is a 33-year-old backstop who's had two-game stints with the Canucks, Sabres and Maple Leafs. His resume also includes extensive service time in the minors, namely the AHL. With Braden Holtby (Canada) and Philipp Grubauer (Team Europe) preparing for the World Cup, the Caps needed a goalie for training camp. MacIntyre is a long-shot to make the club.

MacIntyre was acquired by the Blackhawks from the Hurricanes prior to Monday's trade deadline in exchange for forward Dennis Robertson.

EDGE Analysis

This is just a depth add for the 'Hawks, as MacIntyre has spent the entire season to this point at AHL Charlotte, where he owns a brutal 3.09 GAA and .890 save mark. It'll take an injury to Corey Crawford or Scott Darling for the 32-year-old MacIntyre to even have a chance at sniffing the NHL.

MacIntyre was reassigned to AHL Charlotte on Friday. MacIntyre served as the Hurricanes' emergency backup Thursday against the Capitals after Cam Ward (lower body) was ruled out. His demotion would seem to signal that Ward will be good to go for Sunday's game versus the Red Wings.

The Hurricanes recalled MacIntyre from AHL Charlotte on Thursday. MacIntyre was brought up to provide some depth with Cam Ward sidelined due to a lower-body injury. MacIntyre figures to serve as the backup behind Anton Khudobin until Ward is able to play again.

Drew MacIntyre has agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. MacIntyre had a 2.53 GAA and .917 save percentage in 48 AHL contests in 2013-14. The 31-year-old will start the season in the minors, but he's a legitimate option to be called up in the event of an injury.

Drew MacIntyre can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. If he stays with the Leafs' organization and the team trades James Reimer then he could be an NHL backup next season. There's a chance that he may look for a more guaranteed job elsewhere. The 30-year-old journeyman has started just one NHL game in his career, but he's been excellent with the Marlies in the AHL for the past three seasons.

Drew MacIntrye continued his white hot play in the AHL playoffs stopping 49 of 50 shots in the Marlies' 5-1 win over the Texas Stars Friday night. It was the first game of the AHL's Western Conference finals and MacIntyre stood on his head to give the Marlies the victory and a 1-0 series lead over the regular season champions. Although he is hardly a prospect at the age of 30, MacIntyre could find himself in the NHL backing up Jonthan Bernier next season should the Maple Leafs trade James Reimer.

Drew MacIntyre continued his stellar play in the AHL playoffs. He stopped all 30 shots in the Marlies 4-0 win over the Chicago Wolves Friday night leading the Maple Leafs' farm team to the AHL Western Conference Finals. If the Buds trade James Reimer this off-season, MacIntyre may find himself in Toronto in 2014-15.
