He'll have to keep this going much longer, though, to truly turn around his disappointing season. He's playing fewer minutes and is behind his pace in every category from last season. Hamilton has eight goals and 19 points with a minus-7 rating in 2018-19.

After suffering an 11-game pointless streak, Hamilton has bounced back in a big way with points in four straight games (three goals, two assists). It has been a disappointing campaign for the 25-year-old, who is used to ending seasons in the 45-point range, but that's still within reach if he can maintain this recent upward trend.

Hamilton was brought in via trade from Calgary during the offseason in an attempt to upgrade the Hurricanes' scoring from the back end. Sadly, however, that has not happened, as the Canes are currently tied with the Blues and Islanders for fewest points in the league from their defensemen (56). What's worse, in addition to not scoring, Hamilton also sports an ugly minus-13 rating (second-worst on the team), which suggests he is not taking care of business in his own end, either. He should remain firmly on your fantasy bench until further notice.

Ouch -- not a good stat line for the 25-year-old blueliner, who now has just 10 points through 29 games in his first season in Raleigh. Hamilton recorded at least 40 points in each of his past four campaigns, but he'll be lucky to hit 30 this year given his current pace. Given that the Canes remain one of the weakest teams offensively in the NHL, Hamilton's results should not come as too much of a surprise to anyone.

Don't give up on him just yet.
