Hamilton failed to crack the scoresheet for the fourth consecutive game Thursday against the Blackhawks, giving him just two points in his last 10 contests.

EDGE Analysis

Since being acquired from Calgary in the offseason, Hamilton has (so far) not been the offensive force he was expected to be. The 25-year-old blueliner recorded a career-high 50 points with the Flames two seasons ago, but will be lucky to hit 30 points this season given his current pace. He's still seeing plenty of ice time, averaging about 20 minutes per game (including 2:27 on the power play) on the Canes' top defensive pairing alongside Jaccob Slavin, so all the ingredients are there for him to put up good numbers. Don't give up on him just yet.

Hamilton was unable to convert any of his seven shot attempts in Tuesday's 4-2 road loss to the Lightning.

EDGE Analysis

Hamilton notched an assist in his Oct. 4 debut with the Hurricanes, and he's picked up two more helpers since then, but it has to be frustrating for the mobile defenseman to have come up empty on a team-high 29 shot attempts this season. In this latest game, Hamilton misfired five times at even strength and twice on the man advantage, so it's not like he's been deprived of Grade-A chances. Perhaps a bit of puck luck will help Hamilton get the monkey off his back as far as scoring is concerned, but the Hurricanes don't play again until hosting the Avalanche on Saturday.

Hamilton registered his first official point as a Hurricane in Thursday's season-opener against the Islanders, assisting on Jordan Staal's third-period goal.

EDGE Analysis

The Canes would eventually lose the game 2-1 in overtime, but it was a successful debut for Hamilton nonetheless, as he racked up five shots in addition to the helper. His ice time was surprisingly low at just 18:05, however we would expect to see that number creep up to over 20 minutes per night as the season wears on. Overall, Hamilton is fitting in just fine with his new team, so there are no concerns here from a fantasy perspective.

Hamilton has been spending the preseason playing on the Hurricanes' top defensive pairing with Jaccob Slavin, averaging roughly 22 minutes of ice time per game.

EDGE Analysis

The Canes pried Hamilton away from the Flames in June with the intent of making him their top offensive defenseman this season, and so far he seems to be jelling quite nicely in his new surroundings. In two preseason games, he has a goal and an assist along with 10 shots on goal and a plus-4 rating. The 25-year-old Toronto native has reached the 40-point plateau in four consecutive seasons, so there's no reason to think he won't do it again this year. For fantasy purposes, Hamilton is not an elite blueliner by any stretch, but he makes for a very good second-tier selection in most formats.

Hamilton was traded to the Hurricanes on Saturday, reports Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca.

EDGE Analysis

The six-foot-six, 210 pound stud heads east with Micheal Ferland and prospect Adam Fox, in exchange for Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin. Hamilton immediately takes the Canes to a new level, although it is important to note that his game suffered immediately following his trade from Boston to Calgary. He's more mature now, so hopefully this cerebral defender has the tools needed to make this a seamless transition. Hamilton has delivered four consecutive 40-plus point seasons and hit 50 points in 2016-17.

Hamilton suffered a lower-body injury during Saturday's game against the Golden Knights and did not return, Pat Stienberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Flames aren't going to the playoffs, so this might not end up being an issue. As long as it isn't serious, it shouldn't impact the defenseman's preparations for next season.

Hamilton scored one goal and assisted on a second in a 5-2 loss to Arizona on Monday.

EDGE Analysis

Hamilton's certainly doing all he can to get the Flames to the playoffs, but he's not getting nearly enough help, as this marked the third straight game in which he's scored a point but still finished negative in plus-minus. Still, he became the leading goal scorer among defensemen with his 16th goal, and that's worth quite a lot.

Hamilton scored a goal and added a power-play assist in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Golden Knights.

EDGE Analysis

He also added four shots, a hit, a blocked shot and a minus-1 rating to his ledger. Hamilton now has three multi-point performances in his last four games, giving him six goals, 12 points, 39 shots, 19 hits and 13 blocked shots through 11 contests in February, but the Flames' sagging fortunes have saddled the blueliner with a minus-5 rating on the month despite his scoring binge.

Hamilton posted a hat trick on five shots with two power-play goals factored into his total Saturday night against the Panthers, but his team was still saddled with a 6-3 home loss.

EDGE Analysis

This was the first career hat trick for Hamilton -- who was playing in his 400th career game -- but his tremendous effort was spoiled by the outcome. "Obviously a cool thing to do, but tough in a game like that," said Hamilton in a report by the Associated Press. "I've had two goals before and you always say to yourself, well maybe there's a chance you can score a hat trick, but never did it. The last one I had that I remember was minor hockey. It's been a while." Backed by a quality shooting percentage (7.0), Hamilton now ranks second overall behind Nashville's P.K. Subban for goals by defenseman at 13.

Hamilton had two assists and two shots on goal in a 7-4 loss to the Lightning on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

This gives Hamilton a three-game point streak, and also four assists in his last three contests. One of Hamilton's helpers came with the extra man, but overall the 24-year-old has struggled on the power play this season. He only has five power-play points, and he hasn't had fewer than 14 in his last three campaigns.
