It looks as if Columbus rookie defenseman David Savard will start the season in the NHL. The talented rearguard had an impressive pre-season and with the demotion of John Moore seems to be set as one of the Jackets' top seven blueliners. Savard has offensive ability as his 43 points in 72 games last season in the AHL can attest. Although James Wisniewski and Grant Clitsome are likely to get the bulk of playing time on the Jackets' power play, we expect Savard to pick up some minutes on the second PP unit. Keep him mind when defensemen pickings get slim at the end of the draft.

Prospect David Savard has been catching people's attention as the Blue Jackets' best player in the first two days at Traverse City. We wouldn't count on Savard making the Jackets' opening-day roster but the fact that he's been impressive at the prospects' practices should help him down the road. Savard scored 11 goals and collected 43 points in 72 AHL games last season.
