The 28-year-old defenseman has fallen to the Jackets' third pairing this season, and the 18:02 in ice time he's seen since the beginning of January would be his smallest workload over a full season since 2013-14. Savard is still a solid complementary piece on the Columbus blue line -- his overall plus-7 rating has him tied for fourth on the club -- but his lack of power-play action and dwindling role makes him tough to roster in most fantasy formats.

The most veteran member of the Jackets' blue line corps has fallen to the third pairing, but Savard is still solid in his own end and is tied for fourth on the team in plus-minus with Pierre-Luc Dubois. He was consistently seeing more than 20 minutes of ice time a night earlier in the season, but since Seth Jones rejoined the lineup, Savard's spot on the Jackets' third pairing hasn't afforded him as many shifts. As per usual, the 28-year-old offers more fantasy value in formats that count secondary categories than he does in a straight points league -- through 14 games, Savard has only one goal and three points, but he's supplemented that with 17 shots, a plus-3 rating, eight PIM, 12 hits and 24 blocked shots.

Savard collected 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 81 games during 2017-18, while averaging 19:23 of playing time.

EDGE Analysis

The entire season Savard just missed one game and skated in all six playoff contests, just barely missing his second iron man season of his career. Savard frequently threw the puck on net in 2017-18 posting 145 shots on goal, but was victimized by a poor 2.8 shooting percentage, the lowest mark of his career. For the second straight season the 27-year-old was absent on the power play which will continue to limit his point production in upcoming seasons, but his 144 hits and 143 blocked shots were the most of any Columbus defensemen. Savard will return to Columbus for 2018-19, and should reprise a role on one of the top two pairings.

Savard wasn't able to practice Monday due to an illness, but he was likely never in serious danger of missing Columbus' matchup with the Oilers. The 27-year-old blueliner, who's totaled four goals and 15 points in 75 contests this campaign, will skate with Ian Cole on the Blue Jackets' bottom pairing against Edmonton.

Savard's status for Tuesday's clash with Edmonton is up in the air, but Jack Johnson would figure to return to the lineup if the 26-year-old Savard is unable to give it a go. The defenseman is stuck in a 23-game goal drought and has managed a meager five helpers over that stretch. With 15 points on the season, it may be tough for the Quebec native to reach the 20-point threshold, even if he doesn't miss any time.

Savard registered two assists and five blocked shots during Thursday's 5-3 win over Philadelphia.

EDGE Analysis

After three consecutive 20-point seasons, Savard has settled into more of a supporting role this season while also continuing to be leaned on heavily to kill penalties. He's definitely capable of posting better offensive numbers, and his peripheral contributions are serviceable (128 shots, 119 blocked shots and 119 hits). However, unless he marks the scoresheet more frequently, there aren't many fantasy settings where Savard warrants a roster spot.

Savard picked up an assist while adding two shots, three blocked shots, three hits and a plus-1 rating in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Golden Knights.

EDGE Analysis

While the veteran blueliner has quickly formed an effective partnership with trade deadline acquisition Ian Cole, the assist was Savard's first point in nine games. He now has four goals and 12 points in 66 games on the season, and given his current role he's unlikely to see a spike in production down the stretch.

His point shot floated through a crowd and beat Devan Dubnyk just 76 seconds into the game. Savard hasn't come close to matching last year's production, posting three goals and nine points with a minus-7 rating through 49 games, but if Columbus can find another gear in the second half it should at least help the veteran defenseman boost his plus-minus.

Savard was fined $5,000 by the NHL Department of Player Safety for his slash on the Panthers' Vincent Trocheck.

Savard not only avoids a suspension, but also didn't even have to serve a penalty for the slash. The 26-year-old has compiled two goals, six helpers and 78 shots and could fail to reach the 20-point mark -- something he achieved in each of his previous three campaigns. While his fine won't affect fantasy owners, it could open the door for Savard to be suspended for future infractions.
