He added that he's ready to step into game action if he's called upon, but for that to happen disaster would have to befall Henrik Lundqvist.

"Dave is an experienced goaltender who knows what it takes to win and he will provide leadership for our young team on and off the ice," said team GM Bill Scott. He has compiled a 103-137-23 record with a 2.84 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 273 AHL games with Springfield, Utah, San Antonio and Hartford.
