Right winger David Clarkson (lower body) will sit out the New Jersey Devils' final regular-season game when the team plays the Ottawa Senators this afternoon. Clarkson missed Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Islanders, but was back in the lineup for Thursday's 2-1 win in Detroit. He sat out practice Friday, though. "He's got a little bit of a nagging thing," coach Peter DeBoer said. "It wouldn't keep him out of the lineup if we were in the playoffs, but there's no sense pushing it right now. We've got time, so we're going to use it."

David Clarkson didn't take part in Friday's practice because he's "resting." Given that the Devils are locked into the sixth seed, Clarkson might get Saturday's game off even if he's suffering from just a minor ailment. He has 46 points and 138 penalty minutes in 80 games this season.

David Clarkson will miss tonight's game against the visiting Islanders with what coach Peter DeBoer says is a lower body injury. Given DeBoer says that it's "better to be safe than sorry" with respect to idling Clarkson tonight leads one to believe the injury is minor. It will be the first game Clarkson will miss this season. His 30 goals are third on the team.

David Clarkson netted his 30th goal of the season in Saturday's win over Carolina on his 28th birthday. "The goal is always to win and have the team do well first, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't nice to get to," said Clarkson after reaching the 30-goal mark for the first time in his career. "I never thought that would ever happen to me or I would get there, but the fact that I did is special. It feels good." His personal best 226 shots likely helped and his 138 penalty minutes provides him with some additional fantasy value. However, it's unlikely that he'll enjoy a repeat year offensively next year.

David Clarkson is just one shy of the 30-goal mark. Clarkson never had more than 17 goals in a single season before the 2011-12 campaign, so the fact that he's even close to the 30-goal milestone is remarkable. Clarkson netted his 29th goal of the season on Thursday and has four more games to find the back of the net.
