Former NHL player Dave Scatchard unleashed some scary news on Friday regarding his health. In interviews conducted Friday, Scatchard admitted he did not leave the NHL on his own terms. His body forced the decision. He specifically stated in one interview that he is unable to push his children on swings or perform activities with abrupt movements. "In a way, I'm happy that it is just so clear-cut because there's no way for me to talk myself into playing. I'm going to miss it like crazy. I just wish [retirement] could have been more on my own terms. I'm very blessed to have the career I did." In an age of increasingly enforced player security, this is a step back for the progression made.

Dave Scatchard announced his retirement on his twitter page Monday. He was advised by doctors to stop playing because of concussions after undergoing some testing. Scatchard suited up in 659 games with Vancouver, the New York Islanders, Boston, Phoenix, Nashville and St. Louis. He registered 269 points and 1,040 penalty minutes in his career. We wish him the best in his retirement.
