Sprong was once again relegated to the press box against the Stars on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
With injuries to Sidney Crosby and Matt Cullen (lower body), Sprong had seen action in the Pens' previous two outings, but with Sid the Kid back in the fold, the winger was once again stuck in an observer role. The highly-touted prospect hasn't been able to pry a spot in the lineup away from Dominik Simon or Zach Aston-Reese, which has caused his name to begin swirling among the trade winds.

Sprong (lower body) is healthy and available for Thursday's Opening Night clash with Washington, Jonathan Bombulie of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Sprong is slated to start on the Penguins' fourth line, he could still log some time on the second power-play unit -- although given the firepower contained in the first group, the No. 2 PP tends to be underutilized in Pittsburgh. Still, the highly-touted winger will be looking to make an impact and work his way up to a top-six role and an increased workload.

Sprong (lower body) took part in Wednesday's practice session in a regular sweater, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
At this point in the season, if Sprong wasn't going to play against the Capitals on Thursday, the team almost certainly would have put him on injured reserve. The fact that the Penguins used a spot on the 23-man roster for the dynamic winger is a good indication he will be available Opening Night.

Sprong (lower body) took contact Monday and told reporters he "should be ready to go for Thursday," Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
In addition to Sprong's self diagnosis, the club also reassigned Zach Aston-Reese to the minors, a move it would be unlikely to make if the Danish winger wasn't healthy. Fantasy owners will want to check back ahead of Thursday's clash with Washington, but early indications are he will be in the lineup.

Sprong (lower body) skated Sunday morning, Seth Rorabaugh of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sprong appeared to suffer a knee-to-knee collision during Wednesday's preseason contest against Buffalo. Fortunately, he did practice Thursday and it sounds like he should be healthy in time for the season opener on Thursday against Washington.

Sprong is considered day-to-day due to a lower body injury.
EDGE Analysis
Per Seth Rorabaugh of The Athletic, Spring appeared to have a knee-to-knee collision during Wednesday's game, which coudl be the cause behind his injury. He was reportedly a full participant at Thursday's practice session, which is a good sign, but he's battling a nagging issue that could leave his status in doubt for Friday's preseason finale agaist the Blue Jackets. If he can't go, the winger would then take aim at retaking the ice for the regular-season opener against the Capitals next Thursday.

Sprong secured a two-year, $750,000 AAV contract with Pittsburgh on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Sprong has already been tabbed for the 23-man roster by general manager Jim Rutherford, which means this deal was only a matter of time. The winger racked up 32 goals and 33 helpers in 65 outings with the Baby Pens last year, in addition to notching a trio of points in eight NHL contests. Given coach Mike Sullivan's penchant for putting young players on Sidney Crosby's wing, one has to wonder if Sprong will get a look at a top-line spot during training camp.

According to general manager Jim Rutherford, Sprong will be on the 23-man roster for Pittsburgh next season, Josh Getzoff of PensTV reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since being drafted by the organization in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft, the Penguins' fan base has been clamouring for Sprong to get a shot in the NHL. Considering the winger led AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in goals (32) and assists (33), it shouldn't come as a surprise the team is going to add him to the roster for 2018-19.

Sprong was on the ice for morning skate ahead of Game 4 against the visiting Capitals on Thursday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Included among the Black Aces called up from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last Saturday, Sprong could be sent to the ice for his playoff debut Thursday night. Pittsburgh could certainly use a boost from the crafty winger as the two-time defending champions are currently down 2-1 in the series. The 21-year-old averaged a point per game with the Baby Pens this season to supplement three points over eight contests at the highest level.

Sprong was recalled along with Josh Jooris, Thomas Di Pauli, Adam Johnson, Teddy Blueger, Garrett Wilson, Jean-Sebastien Dea, Lukas Bengtsson, Chris Summer, Jared Tinordi, Andrey Pedan, Tristan Jarry and Michael Leighton, Seth Rorabaugh of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sprong joins a large group of "Black Aces" -- a troop of players on hand just in the event that they are needed due to injury. The 21-year-old winger wasn't ready for the NHL in his first go around during 2015-16, but he could be a candidate to challenge for an Opening Night roster spot next season after totaling 65 points -- 32 goals and 33 assists -- in 65 games with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. However, he and the rest of the players called up Saturday will likely spend the remainder of the playoffs watching the Penguins from the press box.
