Hamilton wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by the Oilers on Monday, meaning he'll become an unrestricted free agent, Jason Gregor of the Edmonton Journal reports. Hamilton skated in one game last season for the Oilers in what marked his NHL debut, but it's clear the organization didn't have visions of him making an impact down the road. The 23-year-old will try to latch on with another club on a two-way deal.

Hamilton was returned to AHL Oklahoma City on Sunday, according to TheAHL.com. The Oilers' season came to a close Saturday, so Hamilton and a slew of other young players will head back to the minors to assist Oklahoma City during their playoff run. Hamilton has tallied 12 goals and 29 points in 60 games for the AHL squad this season.

Hamilton was recalled from AHL Oklahoma City on an emergency basis Wednesday. With Matt Hendricks feeling banged up after Tuesday's win over the Kings, the Oilers are unsure if the fourth liner will be available for Thursday's tilt with the Sharks. Hamilton, who has 12 goals and 29 points over 60 games for Oklahoma City, would step in for Hendricks on Thursday in the event he can't play.

Hamilton was assigned to AHL Oklahoma City on Monday, TSN's Ryan Rishaug reports. The 22-year-old Hamilton produced 16 points in 43 games for Oklahoma City last season. He could get a shot to play with Edmonton later this year, but likely as nothing more than a bottom-six skater.

Curtis Hamilton injured his knee during practice and will undergo surgery Tuesday. Hamilton was the Oilers' second-round pick in 2010 and was playing with Edmonton's AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City at the time of the injury. Next season is the final season of his entry-level deal and it remains to be seen if the Oilers will sign him to another contract.
