Schneider has gone 5-8-3 with underwhelming peripherals (2.68 GAA, .915 save percentage) over 17 games in 2017. There's no disputing that Schneider is a talented backstop, but this has been a forgettable campaign for the 31-year-old Massachusetts native.

Having yielded either three or four goals in seven of his last eight games -- going 0-5-2 in that span -- Schneider didn't make for a good start on paper against the Rangers. However, Schneider's generally a good home goalie who gives his team a chance to win on any given night. His brilliant saves in both regulation and overtime were key in outdueling Rangers counterpart Antti Raanta. Nonetheless, Schneider's fantasy owners will surely want to see him string a few good starts together before their trust is restored.

Schneider has been absolutely abysmal of late, going 0-6-2 in his last nine outings along with a .887 save percentage. The formula in New Jersey has always been limited offensive production but superb goaltending. Well they have the lack of offense going for them -- just 2.27 goals per game -- but the netminder has been lackluster at best. The Rangers are scoring at a clip of 3.17 tallies per contest, so it may be tough for Schneider to avoid a ninth consecutive loss.

A bad season is just getting worse for Schneider. A couple of those losses were in overtime, but it's been more than a month since Schneider won a game for his fantasy owners. During that stretch, he owns a .888 save percentage and 3.22 GAA. Because of this last month, Schneider has seen his GAA balloon to 2.72 and save percentage drop to .911 - both of which are the worst marks of any season where he played at least 10 games. It wouldn't be a bad idea for owners to look for other options down the stretch.

After sitting out the last two contests for the Devils, Schneider will retake his rightful spot in the blue paint. He returns for a difficult one, preparing to face a Columbus Blue Jackets squad that's won six of its last seven games. The roster will also be a bit depleted for the contest, making a tough task even more difficult.

Schneider will not play Tuesday night against the Jets with the game postponed due to inclement weather.
