Smith agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Berlin Eisbaren (DEL) on Thursday.

Smith has logged just one game in the NHL, instead spending the bulk of his post WHL career in the AHL with various teams. Without a NHL deal on the table, the Edmonton native will take his first crack at international hockey.

Smith was dealt to AHL San Antonio from AHL Toronto on Wednesday, Dhiren Mahiban of the Canadian Press reports.

Smith will join the Rampage on a permanent basis just a season after he was traded from Colorado to Toronto at the top level. He will stay at the AHL level, however, and is unlikely to gain fantasy relevance anytime soon.

Smith has been dealt to the Rangers along with a fourth-round pick in exchange for Leafs forward Shawn Matthias.

EDGE Analysis

A former seventh-round pick, Smith has just one game of NHL experience under his belt thus far. That may not change, as the Leafs were using the move more as a salary dump than anything, but Smith has displayed some promise by collecting 34 points over 54 contests with AHL San Antonio this season.

Smith was reassigned to AHL Lake Erie on Tuesday. The Avs brought Smith on board for Monday's game against the Canadiens, with the forward skating 6:06 in his NHL debut. He was sent back to Lake Erie to make room for the promotion of Karl Stollery, who will bolster the team's depth on the blue line.
