Cassels signed a one-year deal with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cassels spent the 2018-19 season with Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams of the German Hockey League, but he moved back to North America this year and has bounced between ECHL Utah and AHL Belleville. The 2013 third-round pick will now try his hand with Pittsburgh's minor-league affiliate.

Cassels penned a one-year deal with the Wolfsburg Grizzlys (DEL) on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
After three seasons playing in AHL Utica -- after having been drafted by the Canucks in the third round of the 2013 NHL Draft -- Cassels will head overseas to continue his professional career. In 69 games for the Comets last year, the center tallied seven goals, 19 helpers and 70 PIM, but clearly didn't show the organization enough to warrant keeping him. At this point, it seems unlikely the 23-year-old will be able to work his way back into a NHL club.

The Canucks assigned Cassels (undisclosed) to AHL Utica on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Cassels started the 2017-18 campaign on injured reserve with an undisclosed ailment, so his demotion indicates he's been given a clean bill of health. The 22-year-old American, who totaled 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 66 games with AHL Utica last season, will likely spend the entirety of the campaign in the minors.

Cassels (undisclosed) will start the 2017-18 season on injured reserve.
EDGE Analysis
Cassels has spent the past two seasons with AHL Utica, racking up eight goals and 10 assists over the two seasons as a bottom-six center. The 22-year-old was hoping to make the jump to the Canucks lineup since they're in a rebuilding year, but those hopes will have to wait. Once he's healthy, Cassels will likely have to spend time in the minors again before having a chance at his NHL debut.
