A longtime veteran of the AHL circuit, Mueller saw action in 64 games with the Rangers' affiliate in Hartford, notching 14 goals and 40 points. He did get the call to the parent club for seven games, but on a deep Ducks roster, Mueller will probably need a few injuries in order to get the call back to the AHL. Look for him to spend the majority of his time this season with the Ducks' AHL affiliate in San Diego.

Mueller was reassigned to AHL Hartford on Thursday, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports. Mueller's demotion signals that the Rangers are preparing for Derek Stepan (leg) to return to the lineup Saturday against the Maple Leafs. The 28-year-old supplied two points during his seven-game stay with the Rangers, but it seems the organization views him only as a depth player rather than a lineup mainstay.

Mueller scored a power-play goal to spark the Rangers' comeback from a two-goal deficit Tuesday against New Jersey and then assisted on Kevin Klein's overtime winner. After making an impression in his first game as a Ranger by winning eight of nine faceoffs, Mueller showed his offensive chops in this one, playing a major role in the comeback win. Although he's 28 years old and has just eight points in 47 NHL games, Mueller has shown his scoring chops in the AHL over the years, and his hardworking style is just what the Rangers needed in the lineup after a somewhat uninspired start to the year. Still, he's unlikely to earn his way up from the fourth line.

Mueller was recalled from AHL Hartford on Friday. The Rangers decided that the youthful duo of J.T. Miller and Jesper Fast weren't benefiting from serving as healthy scratches for the Rangers over the last two games, so they'll head to the minors while Mueller joins the big club. The 28-year-old Mueller piled up the points while with AHL Texas last season, but he's only expected to serve as a depth forward during his stay with the Rangers.
